new trekker tires....flying down a dirt road going full out on my 200x....out of nowhere my left rear tire flys off. heading straight for the ditch on the side of the road, as soon as i hit grass i jumped off. not a scratch on the x and not a scratch on me. but damn i wish i could find the axle bolt that holds on the hub. anyone got an extra? lol

I guess you mean nut that holds the hub on? Which also means you had no cotter key installed?? Very bad... Very lucky all you bruised is your pride!! Slow down and tighten all your nuts and bolts!!!

no the cotter key was on there. couldnt tell you what happened though. the nut probably fell off a mile back when i was trail riding. i assume the cotter key broke, the nut rattled itself free and after i really took off and got some speed the whole tire decided to come off. i made sure everything was tightened down and ready to go. my mistake was probably using the same cotter key that it had before so it might have been just rusted or something. just gotta find another nut so i can go riding again.

Hmmm!!! That cotter key must have been in really bad shape for that to happen, "safety first" never reuse something in that condition and make sure its installed correctly, LESSON LEARNED!!! not trying to be rude its just a fact!!

I dont trust those cotter keys, they are soft. I use stainless steel wire.
