...or do a lot of the members on here hate seeing people "cobble" machines to keep them alive? I would love to do complete restorations on all of my machines but at this point it's all about riding a fun and reliable machine. My 110 "build" is not the prettiest thing around, but it has reliable components that make it a blast to ride and after a little more work I will know it won't leave me stranded somewhere.
Anyway back to the point. Isn't having fun on these bikes what it's all about? Everyone has their own preferences such as a 200x with a 200s motor. The ride and handling is far superior to that of the 200s and maybe someone disliked a manual clutch so they did the swap. Maybe they had an available 200s motor to put in there to keep costs down.
I love working on all three of my bikes and I try to do it for as little $$$ as possible, and if I have to spend a little more to make it reliable I do. Don't get me wrong, it's gonna be a blast when I start restoring them, but right now I'm having tons of fun with them.
Again, it all comes down to the enjoyment factor. To each his/her own.

I haven't been here long and don't want to get off on the wrong foot or anything :)
And maybe cobble isn't the right word. I for one hate watching people take a repairable or restorable item and haul it off to the scrapyard, be it a car, atv, etc. I've paid scrap price for stuff just to save it.

There's a big difference between a cob-job and and unconventional but quality repair.
The difference is with a cob-job, often times more damage is done costing more money and work not too far down the road. If you have money to put gas in the thing and go out riding, then to an extent you should have the money to just fix it right. I hate to see machines that have been hacked and cobbled up that would otherwise be fairly descent.
One of my personal favorites is welded on wheelhubs because somebody stripped the axle threads and didn't want to go to the trouble of re-threading it. What a waste.Actually, come to think of it, just about any kind of welding I have come across was just somebodies lame cob-job.
Welding is fine unless it is utilized to cobble together what hardware was in place to do. Unless you are welding a little crack in a frame or swingarm or something like that, keep the friggen welder away from the wheeler.

.Thanks RIDE-RED 250r!
I feel exactly the same way you do. Cobble was definitely not the word I was looking for lol. I guess what I'm saying is that some members seem offended when someone does "a quality but unconventional" build or repair. I like using parts and materials I have on hand before buying that particular item. If something I have that was intended for a different machine will interchange with the one I'm working on I will definitely do it...to a point. If it is unreliable or requires "cobbling" I won't use it, plain and simple. I have the money to both ride and fix my machines and when I have to shell out the cash for parts I don't hesitate to do so.
So why don't I just restore them to original condition? 1)Personal preference and in most cases upgrades from stock components that just happen to be off another bike. 2)Time. I'm extremely busy and what little time I have to work on and ride these things is spent efficiently, with quality in mind.
I will restore them eventually as they really don't need much at all but for right now I'm enjoying them on the trails.

Lol I had a feeling this would get your attention.
I almost regret starting this thread since, in all honesty, the 200s and 230s I own are far from junk. For the time and money I've spent on the two combined I could probably have just bought a brand new quad. I have a passion for working on and keeping these old bikes alive and eventually my 110 will look as good as my other two rides.
Sorry if I have now offended any of you :(

Before I can let this one go, what the heck is your definition of junk? And why the hell can't I take pride in my work without someone criticizing me? Screw this place I'm out.

Well, you have to admit, you started a somewhat pointless thread on a topic that you darn well knew might draw some negative attention from the member base here. I don't think I have to lay down the nuts and bolts as to the reason most of us are members here. It's mainly because we all share a common passion for the old trikes. And of course, we don't like to see them all cobbled up. Did you honestly think you would get alot of support from us on cobbled up trikes?
It just happens that Mr. Fabio is one of our more outspoken members and will call a spade a spade, and that's fine. I believe he just puts out what most of us are thinking but would rather not actually post. Maybe a few more of us should take his approach?? Might weed out a little bit of the nincumpooopery around here from time to time....
Furthermore, I don't believe anyone was "criticizing" your work as you never even posted any description or pics of your work to make that judgment call on in the first place. So don't get all butt-hurt when someone speaks their mind on a topic that is well known to draw a bit of sharp criticism like this one. In fact, your initial post starting this thread could be taken as an open criticizm of the member base here.
Thread seems more and more like trolling to me at this point now. If you want out don't let the door hit you in the behind. We don't want or need members here who get their kicks just trolling to start fights....
Wish I hadn't wasted the time on my original reply.

No sir, you didn't waste your time posting. I had a crappy day and this place is not for taking out frustrations :( I should have taken the time to think a little before I started posting. I sincerely apologize for all this and next time I will think before I write something on here. I too share a passion for these things and try to keep them up as best I can.
I'm not here to start arguments with others and I'm certainly not trolling. I'm here to learn and help when I can...
Again, I apologize.
P.S. I agree with you about fabiodriven his posts are truthful and to the point and at times are comical when I don't think they're meant to be.

My original intent was not to start an argument I just asked a simple question. I know some people think they should all be restored while others ride them as is.

I'm not going to bother commenting on this abortion of a thread, it speaks for itself.
What I'm wondering about is if people actually study my posts? Do people actually look up my posting from the past? I see more and more new people (of whom I have absolutely no clue who they are) make reference to my posting as of late, when I've hardly said boo over the last couple of months. This guy has only been a member for, well, not even a month it looks like. I haven't even been posting much at all lately. It's the summer time and I'm at the beach all weekend or out enjoying the weather otherwise. Am I an icon of sorts? I'll go with yes, yes I am an icon. Thank you all for pointing that out. :D

No sir I have not studied your posts but I have seen a few in threads when I had done some searches with questions I had. I was in the wrong and was being an ass when I shouldn't have taken my frustrations out on here. I apologize and admire your way of thinking and for your service to this country.
