I have tore my tri-z all the way down to media blast and powdercoat it. In the process I snapped off the bolts for the swingarm skid plate in the swing arm. What's the best way to remove them without damaging the swingarm?

try to weld a nut to it :naughty: thanks for the suggestion. I have had bad history with easy outs. Do you just weld inside the thread?

Easy outs are ok sometimes, but i have snapped some too. I take a nut and sit it over the snapped bolt then weld inside the nut, striking the arc on the top of the broken bolt, i like to just take my MIG and do small spot welds to build it up to the nut and then incorporate the nut into the weld. Let it cool a bit then try to remove it.

I like to use reverse drill bits.

- Keep the bolts soaked in WD40 or your favorite for days
- I hit the bolt with a grinder if i can to smooth the top for a good center punch
- Center punch the bolt - this gives the bit a good place to start and pounding the bolt helps break up the corrosion
- Heat it up - I use a propane torch because that's what I have in the garage
- Drill a pilot hole with a normal bit
- Follow with progressively larger reverse bits

Usually, the one of the reverse bits grabs and backs out the bolt. Sometimes, that doesn't work and I have to run a tap through it for the final cleanup.

Good luck.
