Alright, I think I've got this figured out on my'84, but just want to run it by. The bike has always been interesting to get started, sometimes it'll pop right off and other times its impossible. My plug is usually wet and black when I check it and there was gas in the boot leading to the air box. It will throw out black from the pipe when hit the throttle too.
Here's the fun stuff... Carb was completely torn apart and cleaned except the pilot screw (didn't want to mess the setting). To get it to idle correct, the throttle screw has to be turned all the way in. Sometimes it will idle nice and other times it will idle to the moon. It will die sometimes when I'm riding while I've got it out of gear or the clutch in. I finally had it running today and got the timing set and went to adjust the pilot screw. As I was turning it in, it wouldn't die. It started to idle up high with the set screw fully in. I pulled things apart and the o-ring was crumbled for the pilot screw. Is putting a kit in going to be a cure-all? I'd kinda like to acutally ride this thing one day.
