So after running my trike for 5 years at all 3 drag strips here in southern Ontario, I have been told i can no longer run it.

Yesterday i went to Toronto Motorsports Park, (the closest track to me) they said no more.

There is a new tech inspection guy working there that decided to pull out the rule book, under the NHRA ATV drag racing rules it states:

For All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) running directly on the track surface. All ATV's must be of the four-wheel variety, factory-production assembled, and showroom available and in the hands of the general public. No three wheel vehicles allowed.

Now i can see if some ass decided to try and get his 1984 Big Red with Chen Shing knobbys to run down the track, but come on...this trike isn't built for pulling logs out of the bush, I built it to go fast and go straight SAFELY!!

I contacted 3 different people by phone at the NHRA today and got no where. The only thing that came to light was for the 2013 season they are allowing the
CAN AM SPYDER to run. Now how is that any different? it has 3 wheels....just because 2 are up front and 1 in the rear?? STUPID!!

I finally got the email address of the guy in charge of the atv and motorcycle rules and stated my case to him, sent him pictures and video's and this is what he emailed back................

Jodi,

With regard to your request, NHRA does not believe it is in the best interests of NHRA or the sport of drag racing to amend its rules at this time. Should our position change in the future, that change would be reflected in the then-current Rulebook or amendments thereto.

Did they happen to meantion what prompted this rule change?? Seems kinda odd that they would feel the need so many years after the production of 3 wheelers has discontinued.

There must have been an incident somewhere in the NHRA track circuit to bring this about.

No i guess this rule has been in place since 2002 when they started to allow atv's to run on the drag stip. But i was always under the assumption that it was more for stock off road trikes...not something purpose built.

There is no sand here in Ontario....just asphalt. Might have to switch to a trx chassis if this doesn't get sorted out. :(
