Some of you may have seen my thread "a couple facebook finds" and saw the little honda 125. Well the owner posted on facebook that it was a rare 86' model with an upright engine. After searching the 86' 125 on google images pretty much every one i saw had an upright engine. I'm still pretty new to all of this but is there any truth behind these being anywhere close to rare. If so I have a chance to get one for 150$ (needs ignition coil & recoil start). I am getting it either way because i wanted to build a purple and yellow themed one for my wife so we can have the whole his and hers thing going on but if it is some kind of rare I'd like to restore it original and find something else for my wife.

There aren't a lot of 'em around, & they're really cool little bikes, I'd snatch it up quick if I were you.

Some would call it rare. They made less of them in 86/87. In my area, there are many more 1985's than 86/87 second generations. I wouldnt pass it up espicially for only 150$ good luck.

Get it, get it fast!

I have seen one of those in all my years of collecting and junk hunting. They are pretty rare.

I have the recoil if you need one . A universal coil should work fine for that model
Josh carlson is making the rear fenders in fiberglass .

Actually I just talked to the guy and I can get it for an old bow I paid like 30$ for at a swap meet and a metal ladder stand I bought for hunting last year but we lost our lease and I have no use for them now. He is holding it for me and I will be picking it up this weekend. Its in decent shape. Looking it over again I see it needs fenders too and the front forks aren't original from what i can tell. All the images I see they have solid front forks. The question is, restore original or custom?

ok. like i said im still new so i can't really tell a lot yet. would you say its still worth the price or should i pass. the guy seems convinced that its a 125 but he probably knows less than me. he also says its an 85 which would make sense if it was a 200.

Yep- def. a 200s. Its been completely spray canned if you couldnt tell:D, incorrect shifter lever-(looks like a 110 shifter),a complete pullstart can get pricy-(post a wanted ad here in the class. section & sure youll get a good deal), looks oily around the head gasket in the front-just under the exhaust (coming out of the motor)-could need rings -hard to tell from just that pic exactly where oil is coming from -(could be a oil leak or could be worn piston/rings-(ask him if it smoked), +its got a aftermarket header+:p, not sure if you really meant ignition coil or stator/exciter (behind the flywheel-puller needed)- if it dont have spark its usually the cause. Still a good deal -but gonna need a little attention for sure so be prepared to spend a little something (as for any ATC). The 185s/200s are the simplest, most dependable ATCs -IMO. Downfalls- no rear susp. , also- no reverse like a 86-87 125m.
