Quite a bit...
If i had to sum it up... The S and M are chain drive, the M has electric start, the S is recoil start. The ES is also known as the Big Red, which is what i have. It has recoil and electric start and all the bells and whistles a working trike should, racks and reverse with shaft drive and high low range, etc etc.
The S and M models are basically the lower option models in my opinion. Then the ES is like the has everything edition.

The 200es- The way I always looked at it was E for electric start, S for shaft drive, was replaced by the 250ES in 1985. The 200es was only made for 1984.

why did they stop making the 200es?
They didn't stop making them per-say. Honda upgraded it in 1985 to the 250ES (Big Red). They added 50cc to the motor and upgraded the front suspension, and added rear suspension. A bigger better model some might say. The previous Big Red Models (1982 - 83) ATC200E - were chain driven with no reverse gear, thus making the 1984 an upgrade from that. In 1984 it got "the shaft" as well as a reverse gear. Although the first generation look almost identical to the 1984 models (Same fenders and gas tank)- they are really worlds apart.

Anybody know if there is a manual/semi auto gearbox that will bolt up to the 200s? Ive tried looking around on here and cant find an answer.

Because of the basic output shaft of the 200s, which is just a sprocket, I don't think anything else would work. The E's (the chain drive with hi/lo range) have a pretty long output shaft if I remember right.

so then the gearbox from the 200x is a definite no go?

you would have to compare the cases i guess, but doesn't seem like it would work

Ive tried looking around on here and cant find an answer. The 200s already has a manual/automatic gear box that you still have to shift but there is no clutch. Are you wanting a manual clutch for your 200s? There was a guy on here that installed a 200x engine in a 185s frame a few weeks back so you might want to do a search and see what all he did to make it work.

Ah that what I wanted manual gearbox without a clutch because my wife cant use the clutch. But the specs page for it says that it is automatic(?) which is why I was asking.

Hey man you shift it with your foot 1 up 4 down. its a 5 speed. There is no clutch.
I know it sounds confusing, just picture riding a bike without a clutch but you still shift it with your foot. That's why its called a semi automatic. You let up off the throttle when you shift to be kind to the gearbox. Dig ?

Thank you for the clear answer. It seemed like everywhere I looked I was being told automatic exclusively, but I wasn't sure because the answers were vague.
