thought you guys might like to see this before i crate it up and send it to the States.....
it came from the original owner (through a 3rd party) guy bought 2x Z's in sept 86.... in oct 86 the UK banned all sport 3 wheelers so he couldn't use it at any tracks etc so sold the one and left this one in the crate until 2002.... he built it up and has been sitting covered in a air-con garage for the last 10 years ....never had fuel in it!!!!!
i have seen a few "new" tri-z's in the UK in the last 10 years (yamaha dumped all the unsold US tri-z in the UK in 1989 sold through car auctions to get round the ban) but this bike is by far the best one and just like 1985 again ......not a spot of rust, a crack in any of the tires, not even a light scratch in any of the fenders which are still have the deep yellow color and have that factory shine to them......:drool::drool::drool::drool:

Speechless Pete... what a prized posession, to say the least. It will surely be the certerpiece of someone's collection.
Weren't you even the slightest bit tempted to keep it for yourself????

Awesome photos, thank you for sharing this. I do have a question for other Tri-Z owners though, especially if you’ve restored one.
I couldn’t help but notice that the rear brake line on this particular trike is not routed the same as the one in the 85 YTZ manuel. I have mine routed the same way, but I’ve always wondered if the one in the owner’s manual is less prone to getting caught on a fallen branch or other protruding object. I think there is also a stop on the caliper that the banjo bolt is supposed to be against. I wonder if the brake lines were routed at the factory, or if the dealers put them on?

Wow nice! I can't beleive he took it out of the crate though. Can you imaging how much more it would have been worth. It seems like over seas there is alot of Tri-z's. If you search on youtube it seems like a majority are from a foreign country. Its great to see something so close to new so old.

One more for ya Bryan : ) lol. Dam Pete,,I really should keep in touch more ! I will just post this here,,hope you don't mind. You're a bloodhound too Pete and understand completely !!! I was chasing the 2 85 Big Reds still crated. I will even say his name is Mason. He lives in Arkansas. His Grandfather collected Big Reds and was a Honda dealer . He posted some of what was left of his Grandpas Machines last year on Ebay. There were 17? I believe out of 34 that he had amassed. they were all in a warehouse, dusty as could be. He had 2 in crates. I spoke to Mason last year and Begged him if he ever sold his ( His Brother had one also} to please call me. Anyhow,as luck would have it,I got my comp going and was on the phone as I was reading the crated atc's post earlier this week..So,I posted.. You probably missed it but. I will say this. There is ONE,,and I mean ONE,,Brand new never ridden machine left in the world! News to us ehh Pete!!!!! Anyhow,,Mason,,like El polishing his Grandmas coins... Put it together.. it's in his garage for anyone who dares to pry it out of his hands. He and his Brother really liked Gramps and decided to set them up and keep them. I never pushed him,,it was family. At any rate!! Wow Pete,,Thank you for sharing. That is an exquisite piece of equipment!! I really would have loved to own it. Great work as always!

is the back shock spongy like every other Z out there?
i heard that the crated z is in germany?...
great find, this was 15miles from my house :(
?????????!!!!!!! Well,,then it wouldn't be new anymore?? We humans are so different!! lolI thought you were referring to a crated bike since that was the hot button topic a day or so ago. You said here is another one and I never mentioned anything about a new assembled bike in the other thread so you had me confused??? I think Mike at VMS has a couple new never had gas in them bikes, here is another one and then there are the two Big Reds that you thought were still crated and now are complete bikes. Seems like new complete bikes outnumber the crated never assembled units about 2:1.
I hate to crap on such an awesome thread by Pete and this beauty of a Tri-z, but since my name was mentioned I just want to squash all this "Crated Bike" business between us. We obviously have two very different perceptions on how many are still out there. You can take someones word without proof and that is fine. I wish I had that much trust in a mans word, but unfortunately I trust very few peoples word anymore (might have something to do with my job????).
I need evidence and not hear say to prove something as rare as a crated bike. No hard feelings as far as I'm concerned and this is all the further I will comment on future crated bike threads.:beer
Again Pete, sorry for the thread crapping and I could stare at this beauty all day long.

I always found the build details pretty ordinary on new TRI-Z's. I remember the first time I washed my new one I could see all this flaky stuff falling on the ground. I thought it was leaves or something but it turned out to be yellow paint from the frame. Also the plating used to tarnish really quickly.
Still good to see as new trikes out there, though.
