View Full Version : The New Baby. '84 dcreel Tecate
Well after 640 miles and 10 hours on the road my new toy is home. I want to first off extend my gratitude to Doug (dcreel) and his great family for welcoming me to his home. Doug was a great internet friend and now has become a personal friend. Its amazing how you can meet someone for the first time and feel like you've known the guy for years.
Most of you know the history of this bike and how long Doug has owned it (since '87 to be exact) so for him to choose me to have the bike is an honor in itself. This thing has old school racer written all over it. You can't look anywhere and not find a trick rare part and here are a few pics at its new home. I can not wait to ride it.

Bryan, it was great meeting you and I couldn't think of a better guy to have it.. It's time to plan a ride.. Glamis maybe?! lol
It hurt to watch it leave.. Alli, gave me a hug and said "It's alright dad you have a Banshee" lol

That thing is BA everywhere you peek. Very nice.
I felt for you as I was driving away. I was telling my wife how Alli was helping us carry parts to the truck and she got a kick out of that. She reminds me of my daughter so much on how she's into bikes and hanging in the garage just like one of the guys and it doesn't get much better than that. You and your wife have done very well, she is such a good kid. Like I said you know where it will be so no worries.
Glamis or bust, we need to start with a plan. Maybe yeagerb's bike will finally be done by that point, but don't hold your breath.

And nobody here would blame you. That thing was a part of you, I feel bkm will take good care of it :beer
Beautiful Tecate, Happy it stayed on the boards. BKM got any plans for it ?I really don't plan on changing much. Doug and myself talked about maybe powdercoating the front wheel gold like the rears to give it that '84 look, but mainly just ride it and freshen stuff up here and there. I think re-plating the hardware and some new powder here and there would look really nice.

Excellent! Bryan, how much money are you charging to let me sit on it? That bike is f'ing awesome! I can't wait to see it in person. I am mosdef up for a ride with you guys and yes I should have the bike done by then Lol!
I drained out the old gas and put a fresh splash in there. 2nd kick she fired right up. I was only able to go up the street a few times before I left for work, but holy sh!t what an animal!!!!! Doug if she's tired I would hate to see what its like when fresh.lol When I get a minute I'm going to throw a compression guage on there and see just where its at.
Its amazing how much power there is from off idle to the top of the rev. I had only ridden one other Tecate and it was peaky just like their reputation, but this bike was nothing like that.

Awesome, Bryan.. It's definitely a testament to what Harry Klemm can do to a Tecate.. The amazing thing is that the bore is older than my wife.. lol

The amazing thing is that the bore is older than my wife.. lol Lucky SOB haha
I think she may still have a lot of life left in her. 180 psi cold on the gauge. This winter for sh!ts and gigs I'm going to tear it down and measure everything and see if its all within spec, which if I was a betting man I would say it will all be fine. But I want to be on the safe side seeing as how long this engine has been trouble free I would hate to destroy it because I didn't check it out.
Plus that will give me an excuse to install the Sprock head along with a fresh coat of paint.

Bryan, you need to take it off some sweet jumps... lol
Bryan, you need to take it off some sweet jumps... lolI take to jumps like a dancer with two left feet.lol
I am really wanting to get some seat time and hope that they race again in ashtabula next year. I want to give the vintage class a shot. Different tires, swap out the lower profile seat, and a couple of cranks on the rear strut and she's ready to rip.

Well, just got back from Bryan's and I have no words to describe how sick the Tecate is. Doug you took really good care of this bike and every inch of it is littered with custom, old school parts. And yes, I did get to sit on it and my eyes welled up...LOL.

Very nice, couldn't stay away from the Tecate's long I see. I don't ride my Tecate much but there's no way I could part with it.
