Can someone give me a quick rundown of what the letters mean behind the numbers on the different honda models? Like 200m, 250sx etc.

i started a thread about this once, but it never really got too far. the way i see it...
250R = Race
250ES= Electric start / Shaft driven
250SX= Shaft driven / X, cross country?
200X/350X= X,cross country
200S= Suspension
200E= Electric start
200M= Medium size or Manual shift?

I dont think they mean anything. They are model designators assigned by Honda and there is no printed specifics on what the letter means so it could mean whatever you want it to but the fact is they really dont mean anything.

There seems to be a loose theme though.., like the 200m and 125m both had electric start and the same colour decals. They were like big brother and little brother midrange models.

The 110 and 200s had same graphics, were both pull start, and sort of little brother and big brother. They didn't share the same letter though..

If it's real important, you could try to compare the orig sales brochures.

They're somewhere on the front page I think.

I think JonBoy is pretty close... I've always felt like X was more of a sport/4 stroke designation & full suspension.

Still there is a lot of holes left in my theory.

250R = Race
250ES= Electric start / Shaft driven
250SX= Shaft driven / part work, part play. technically this should have been the 250SEX :D
200X/350X= full suspension 4 stroke
200S= I think the S was more for sport, in the recreation sense of the word, not competitive sport
200E= Electric start
200M= Middle class? lol. it was a little nicer than the S but not quite the ES...
