I used to run the Fatty pipe and Powercore silencer with my old stock unported cylinder, better reeds and the 38 AS carb. It ran pretty good, but it switched off rather quickly on upper mid to topend. Not a bad system persay, certainly better than DG (if they even still make ATC250r exhaust) but there are better out there.

I like my ESR system very well. And alot of other folks also swear by the Paul Turner pipe too. These are about your best 2 choices for mass produced systems. Then there are custom sytems, whole new ballgame. NOS350x makes a really nice looking OOF pipe. Hear alot of good things about Shearer's custom pipes too...

a low/mid range pipe will work but not well for a high rpm port job and carb. mix match part will not get you the most out of them. you set up will work better than stock but the fatty will hold back some hp.
ride red: how do you like your esr pipe, any complaints?

Just try it out, if you don't like it. Save up for a better pipe.

Perforance wise, it's the best I have ever owned. But I don't have as much experience with as many different systems as others in here. I have owned the FMF system and had a little bit of run time with a DG. My only complaint and it's relatively minor is I have a couple small chips in the chrome plating after about 10 hours ride time. They are very small, like the size of a pencil erasor. It's holding up better than some I have heard of in the past. But, it is mounted on a trike after all, and that front wheel puts the pipe under constant assualt of stones and such. I went with the standard mount system and fitment was very good. I had to slightly modify the right front corner of my engine skid plate (with a hammer) so the expansion chamber wouldn't contact it. It was only necessary becuase it is a FAT pipe. Overall, I'm very pleased with it.

William: If you are porting for lo-mid, running the 38mm carb isn't going to hurt you that bad. Do the low-mid porting, run a reed spacer, the FMF Fatty and if you can run race fuel do the head gasket mod. I garantee you will LOVE the midrange with that setup! And it still won't be "slow" on top...

The FMF shouldn't do bad, it's a real descent system. But like I said, there are some better options out there. If that's what you have right now then give it a try with your mods. If you don't like it or just want to try something else you can down the line....
