What is a good paint to use that I can pick up a Wal-Mart or Home Depot to paint various items like the handlebars, skidplates, etc that will last for a while? I dont have anyone local to powdercoat items. Any suggestions would help....

If you have a decent air compressor, I suggest buying a cheap paint sprayer. Sams club or wally world normally has some good deals on entire kits for about $60. You can then go to Napa or a paint shop and have any color in the rainbow made. These guys are also pretty wise as to what type of hardener to add for the intended purpose. You can even clear coat stuff if you practice. It will look a lot better than a rattle can ever will, and last longer too. BTW, you can charge your buddys to paint some of their stuff and recover the cost of the sprayer.

A spray gun would be best if you can't get the parts powdercoated.I use dupli-color high temp spray paint. You can get it from atou zone,wal-mart, anywhere you can get spray paint.I sandblast and wash the parts before I paint so it sticks good.dupli-color is automotive paint so its good qaulity, not that rustouleum crap.
