as far as i know they were just frames. Tracy was the one to show up with the crazy built motors and working with Schmitty's they were able to come up with some really wild experimental machines back in the H street days. frames were probably available through Schmitty's but i dont think he had a storefront, just a garage, like Nick

Most aftermarket frames are +2" or +3" longer and have different geometry over stock for better handling . Stock frame when road hard will break right at the gas tank eventually . Hope that answers your question ?

How rare are aftermarket 125m frames? I was in the middle of freshening mine up and the frame split at the seat release. Wife gave up her matching machine so I could have a rider. I can see this one splitting too.

As far as I know the aftermarket craze was over by the time the 125's came out. This is the only one I've ever seen or heard of. The only way we know it is a 125 frame is from the battery mount.

joker?

That one is the same as the two in my earlier post. It is a SPRINT. Both made by DICKSON DESIGN AND DEVELOPEMENT.
The one in this picture is a JOKER. The difference is the gusseting at the front motor mount and at the rear bearing carrier.

stock frames flex and cracks develope around the upper rear motor mount too.....add rear axle extensions and you'll have cracks in a stock frame after one day of hard riding

bet no one knows why the stretched the frames, aftermarket hardtail and suspension, to the front instead of the rear.....

if someone was to reproduce or offer a new aftermarket frame today, do you think they'd stretch it to the front or rear?

You are kidding me, right? Minty. Which answer do you want? Chain. Rear brake rod. Rear fender. Rear fender to engine/footpeg relationship.

How hard is it to weld up a cracked frame? Is it possible to keep the frame square to itself to maintain proper geometry? Or will they just lean to one side cause it's a PITA. I was was thinking some 3/16" steel plates sandwiching the frame over the weak spot would be a good idea.

Uber, you are sort of confusing me here. You say a cracked frame, but you want to repair it with steel plates? Sounds more than a crack. Just make sure you have the frame repaired by a competent welder. The welder should know the proper way to repair the frame and use all the proper materials and techniques.
90crazy, I love how the ad says just bolt on all your stock parts. But why???? Bolt on all the goodies! LOL

The reason I asked about reinforcing is because I'm fat in the ass. And I don't want it welded up only to split again.

156615Pay out the ass? You little stinker! LOL Get away from the stock frames. It doesn't matter your weight, they were stamped sheet metal and they are over 30 years old. Weak on a good day. You need aftermarket my friend. I may have something for you if need be. You can provide your own front end. The Rutt Ryder would be a little pricey, as it cost me a pretty penny. Let me know if your free frame doesn't work out.

Veal would my 86 200s front end fit on that? And what kinda price tag are we talking about? Or is that something you would prefer to discuss in private?

Someone needs to grab that Bandito in California! I don't think that guy would have been willing to strip it and ship the frame either. But thanks anyways Mr. Clean! :beer

It looks like Veal might be my only hope for a strong enough frame. Get at me when you get a chance please Veal!
