After finishing my first rebuild of a 86 tecate *(should have picked an easier project) I am amazed at the amount of money I have dumped into this endeavor. I have photos of it on my profile page in an album if anyone wants to see it. Finding parts are like looking for unicorns at the bottom of the ocean. All builds however are labors of love so you shouldnt count em right ?
Bottom line is I have the 3 wheel bug bad now after tearing up the sand on my kxt and was thinking of doing a Tri-Z next, what I want to know is are parts a little more available for these ?
What are some other 2 stroke trikes that are easier to find parts for ? Only interested in 2 strokes ...
You will have a much easier time doing a Tri-Z or 250R, and find way more parts are available, both stock and aftermarket than any Tecate.
Z's are easy and cheap to find.
I always said if I owned or built a tecate, it would sit, just becuase the mad money parts bring, if you can find them.

It doesn't take to many right clicks to burn up alot of $ for sure.Just taking something and bringing back to good rideable standards can take alot of $.Any hobbie is going to cost you $ period.

Well, I have a nice 350r, going to be starting the resto-mod on another '85 250r (the one I had back in high school :)).
My brother (Ride_Red_Man) and brother in law (Beadle350x) both just recently acquired an '85.5 Tri-Z each. Now I find myself feeling the itch to get myself a green one and fix it up! You know, so when we all get together riding Lewis Couty in northern NY all of the old raceing legends are represented. It is certainly a sicknessm and I don't care to be cured!
There are some BEAUTIFUL builds owned/built by the membership here for sure. You can see by looking at the pics all of the time, money, energy and dare I say love that went into them.
Your Tecate looks great, you should be proud!

PM me if you'd like to talk. :D
You have to remember its just like any other vehicle that can be restored, you can buy one done cheaper than you can build one. Its hard to drop the cash all at once but its way better than nickel and dimeing yourself.

I'd love to talk a little turkey Fab, but the truth is I really have to get my other R project off the ground this winter for sure. I have been putting this off for far too long.
Once I get that done, I just may be on the hunt. ;)

I love my hobbies, even though they are expensive ... Even if I found one fully redone it would still not be exactly what I wanted ... building the trike is the fun part, Every ride on here is an expression of that rider. All of the inspiration came from trikes I saw on this site when I built my tecate...I dont think I could buy any one and not want to change something to make it uniquely mine...I think its more fun that way

Lets face it, anybody can go down to the dealership and lay down 7 to 10 grand on a new wheeler and feel like some sort of Billy-bad-a--. No offense intended against the quad owners/riders here, I myself own quads too! ;) But when it comes to bringing these old legends back to life, that is something a bit more special and nostalgic... Just like building a nice hot-rod or muscle car. And I'm not talking about hopping up a ricer burner either. (again, no offense, just making a point ;))
I take no offense, I feel the same way about building it yourself. I was just warning you for next time:beer

If it is a fun "guy" thing, prepare for it to cost money......titties and tires.....
