Well here we go again. How much do you think this 85 Big Red is worth? I know location does effect price, but just looking for some opinions. It runs good with no real issues. Has a little weep at the valve cover and shift shaft seal. Electric start and kick start work fine. All lights work except the reverse light. Maier rear fenders that were trimmed right below the taillights. Both side covers are there. No rips in seat.

In my area, as it sits you would get around $1000-1200, clean her up to give a shine on the plastics and it would go upto around $1500. This is based on listings I have seen, I can't say if they truely sold for them prices or not.

Same here. That's a 12-1500 trike around here, it looks good, and if it runs good you should be able to get that, I would think. Hell I paid 900 for one that was probably in the same running shape with worse plastics and a leaky gas tank.....

To be honest, if I was buying, I would offer $800-900, but I am a bit of a low baller/deal finder

1000 $ is reasonable, but in my area they are bringing 500-900 $ good luck

Thanks for the input guys. It will probably be up for sale soon. Unless I decide to keep it lol. I have had it for over 4 years. Just picked up a real nice 86 Big Red so the 85 doesnt have much use right now.

I actually need the left side swingarm cap/dust cover. Also the expensive right side panel. The previous owner took it off since he was kick starting it and couldnt find it. I know as soon as I buy one he will find it lol. I saw the repos being made and may even go that route.
I have a few pics on a thread called my new to me 86 Big Red.

I should have the swing arm dust cover (let me check when I get home), and I have the right side panel plastic, but I only have one set, so probably going to save it for a restore.

Yes it does have the brackets on it. That's because I used it to plow my driveway the last few winters. The plow brackets are not for sale. They are going on my other big red.

I dont blame you for not wanting to sell them. It took me a total of 9 years of searching and networking to track down all the parts needed to get a plow set up for my 87 Red. Alot of people dont want to part with that stuff and i dont blame them!

I found my whole plow set-up on eBay about three and a half years ago. Think I paid $260 shipped. I lucked out.
I leave the brackets on year long and keep the plow stored till winter.

I just sold the bottom plate for $80. The guy I got the machines from was going to call me and drop the rest off at my house, too bad the call never came in :(. I did buy 5 250es machines in poor to fair shape with an extra frame, 2 engines, and a couple buckets of parts for $2500. All 5 run, just needed carb work for the most part, 2 had good batteries :).

WOW!
I guess it does depend on your area. My brother has 3 big reds and paid between $0 and $350 each. All are good reliable trikes.

I paid around $200 for this one and felt I got a good deal. At the time, it didn't run. Shift fork was broke, and wasn't in neutral to start..... fixed that, poped another gas tank on it, and she runs and drives. The car tires are from another parts machine I tore down, needed the rears for another. BTW... it is a 85 SX with a big red front end and rear plastics are welded on. Oh and it has the one way bearing issue in the clutch, got the parts to fix the engine before I sell it and the rest of the machine.

I would buy big reds all day long if I could spot them for $350 and less as complete machines in fair shape, not even running.

I have seen parts bikes, and ones that have motor issues or hammered plastics and junk tanks go for cheap around me too. Problem is a $200 parts/project bike can get expensive quick when you need to buy taillights, plastics, oem or Clarke tank, tires etc. Usually you will have alot more into it then you will ever get out. Thats why I think a Big Red that needs nothing to look and run good but an owner is worth the cash.
I dont need to have my bikes to look like garage queens, but do like them to be complete with nice cosmetics and reliability.

I like to take mutable parts machines and make good machines out of them. Worse case, part them out to get the money back or maybe even profit a bit. When the rear ends are going for $250-500 on ebay, a $200 beater looks pretty good.

Around me on CL I have seen some going in the range of $1800. Now I didnt go look at them and dont know even if they sold. Ebay prices seem to go higher then they should, but thats ebay.
I think I will ask $1500 obo on CL and maybe $1250 on here to fellow members.
