I am looking to possibly have a tri-z shipped from the Chicago area to Springfield, MA. I have no idea where to start, or how much it will cost.

Can anyone who has shipped three wheelers or bikes let me know about any good or bad experiences they have had. It is a 15 hour drive. I could just tackle the trip, but that is something I really dont want to do.

I am not even sure if this is worth my time or money to do. But I have a real nice 86 tri-z waiting for me to have it shipped or pick it up.

You might try Forward Air. I've heard good things about them. I don't see you spending less than $500 to $650. I've looked into shipping several times with different companies and different distances it always comes in around there. In the end I've always opted for picking it up myself. I like to be there to see the machine myself and hand over the cash in person.

I used FexEx Freight once. The bike came from Kansas to me here in Mass. FedEx Freight only delivers to commercial addresses so I used my work at the time, even though I ended up picking up the trike at the terminal so I could still get it on the day it was supposed to be delivered. They were a day behind schedule. Also, they were far cheaper than any other quotes I got. Because my work at the time had an account with them it was like 40% cheaper than it should have been, or something ridiculous like that. I want to say it was in the $350 to $450 range. Nobody else came close to that price. The deal actually wouldn't have been worth it if it hadn't been for FedEx Freight. The bike was a roller, no crate. They just rolled it around.

Let me check with my buddy, he is going out to mass this week but may be gone already. He is a trucker but is actually taking his truck out there empty to get a log splitter for another friend of mine. Yes a log splitter. $46,000 log splitter!

Of course, it's a relatively large machine, there's obviously going to be a significant amount of effort involved to get the bike from point A to point B. You're not shipping a box of candy (or maybe you are? A big box of candy..).

i just shipped a 5FTx4FT miniquad ATC from Dallas to San Diego. The company used sala to ship it. They were ontime and very cordial. The place had strapped it to a large pallet with zip-ties (the big ones) and then used wrap all over the bike and create together. total shipping was $198. So if it's on a pallet and you use that type of palce to a buisness address it will be much cheaper. We even ahd them use a truck with a liftgate so we lowered the gate rigth onto my pickup tailgate, we unwrapped the bike and rolled into my truck bed. i let the guy have the pallet (they are expensive so they are happy to take them). Tool 10 min start to finish.

You can also try www.uship.com (http://www.uship.com) I haven't used them myself, but you might get a good deal.
They do a reverse bidding system so many different people may bid on transporting it and bring the cost down. Be flexable on the dates for delivery and this will open up for more competition ( and lower cost ).

I've used Uship about 5 or 6 times and they were reasonable. Probably run around 400 on uship. for that distant.

Uship is the one they use in that show where they all compete, after seeing how some of those guys handle the items on tv its hard to believe they stay in business, but plenty have also had good experiences with them.

Up here in the Midwest we have Spee-Dee, they got UPS and Fed-Ex beat, i can get a package from here to anywhere they serve next day under i think 20lbs. Over that its usually two days because of handling i guess. I know guys that have shipped bikes, quads, trikes, lawn tractors, they will do it all. Too bad you don't have a regional operation like them.

In the end you just have to look at shipping cost vs your cost, whats your time worth, how much gas money..

I shipped a Tri-Z from central KS to Connecticut for about $80 using Fedex Freight about 2 years ago. I tore it all apart though so it would all fit on a standard size pallet and we were/are getting some great rates from Fedex from where I work. I was able to band it up with metal straps and wrap it all up in shrink wrap. I think it only took a couple days to get there.

If you want, I could ship you another Tri-Z from KS, but this one has a Banshee engine in it...$2k

I own a piano moving business and one of the national piano transports we deal with also does motorcycles. The company name is Keyboard Carriage. I see all sorts of bikes on their trucks, from old Hondas to new Harleys. I've even seen some sweet exotics on there like high end Ducatis and a Bimota. The trucks are all air ride equipped / climate controlled and the bikes are on special pallets. Haven't the foggiest what it cost though.
