I'm having trouble pulling the flywheel on my 87 KXT 250. I'm using a puller, but the flywheel doesnt seem to budge. Does anyone have any advice? Please help.

I had this problem once, not with the same engine though. I boiled a kettle of water and poured it over the flywheel until the flywheel was hot, then threaded the nut on and used a rubber hammer while holding the flywheel (gloved hands). If you use the hammer make sure you are hammering the nuts and not the shaft, and make sure the hammer is rubber. As you have a puller, i'd use it, but try the hot water trick. I couldn't believe it when it worked :D

NEVER get a hammer anywhere near a stock Tecate flywheel. If you tap or beat on it, you might loosen the glue that holds the magnets on. Your talking 14 year old glue.

i'm always afraid i'm going to bust something with a puller. just when I think the next 1/8 turn will pull threads out or something the flywheel pops off.

Had this problem with my friend's 400ex. I now know from experience that pullers are made of softer metal than flywheels are

I got the flywheel off finally! I had to put alot of tension on the puller, add a little heat to the center, then tap the puller with a hammer.

Ahh, in wise hands the hammer can be the most useful tool in the box. ;)

I hope it doesn't throw a magnet. I hope your hammer skills are really great because tapping, hitting, or striking is not a good thing to do when it comes to the stock Tecate flywheels. Kawasaki should have screwed the magnets on like they did on the KXs. Hopefully the 87's have better glue.

Look it over real good. They can be re-glued if need be.

Jeb, have you posted pics of your Tri-Z anywhere on the forum or frontpage? I'd really like to have a gander.
