I don't have the room in my garage to store a parts washer that I'd only use sparingly. Anyone have any special processes they go through to get the grime out???

Also, what kind of solvent do you use? I'm not keen on the gasoline thing...

Thanks,

If the part is to dirty for the parts washer (Which is usually my problem) I squirt ALOT of castrol superclean on the part (Full strength) And let it sit for 10-15 minutes, get a regular water hose with a nosle on it, or a pressure washer is even better. Does the job well.

lol believe it or not but stuff like draino or other drain uncloggers work very wel but are very acidic so wach your hands also the spray stove cleaner stuff works wonderes. or carb cleaner, break cleaner are also very good.

A small pail with some Varsol and a dip basket works great.

i used the car wash last night on my 250r frame ( cleaning it for the sandblaster people )
i took a bucket + brush with me. at our car wash it has a de-greaser selection and i let it soak for a short while and also put some in the bucket along with soapy water and scubbed all the heavt crud off then rinsed.
it was so clean the fella i took it over to to sand blast put it in his (nice ) office to finish drying overnight.

i have acess to a small prts washer at work so thats where i do my small stuff,,,

The Castrol stuff does work very well especially if you can pressure wash it off -thats the only thing that got my backhoe clean. But be careful as I have seen it discolor the paint/

As for the dishwasher - that is an awesome idea - however I would pick one up off the side of the road because most of them work but they get replaced because they leak. Hook up some water and 115V and you have your own parts washer. But I wouldn't use the same one I clean my dishes with. Anyone for 2stroke chicken cordon blu???

Gas truly does work really well but is dangerous and stinks up your hands. You can buy 5 gallons of the same stuff used in parts washers fairly reasonable and then store it in a 5 gallon pail. I ust to just pop the lid off and throw stuff in there for awhile then use a stiff wire brush.

Most of my stuff isn't dry(kinda oil soaked), so I just use a putty knife to scrape what I can off then I use a wire brush to finish up.
