Hello to all. To begin with i will be getting pics up when i take them, didnt have time before dark today.
A guy a work with had a 1985 ATC 110 that he just never got around to restoring. I used to have an '83 110 when i was little so i figured i would get another. My old one is still running as i sold it to my buddy, its a workhorse.
He just wanted to get his money back out of the deal so i gave him $50 bucks and some rifle ammunition, as he likes to shoot.
Along with the 110 i got:
3 new tubes for the tires
fuel filter
new manual
he just put oil in it
replaced some of the older "stuck" screws with stainless allen wrench screws
new plug
He gave me the history on it and i just hope itll run, as he did not try to start it. He got the 110 from guy and it had suddenly stopped running and sat outside for about 3 years. He has had it for about 3 years and really just cleaned it up. There is rust here and there which would be expected and inside the gas tank. The brakes work well, high/low lever works, switches into/out of gear fine, throttle/cable seem fine. The overall condition of the 110 is pretty good and i was impressed. the seat doesnt have any tears. the plastic on the front tire has a crack. the plastic on the rear is in good shape but the black trimming which has the 110 markings is missing, and missing the lid to the storage in the back. he said 2 of the tires old air pretty well but one has a slow leak. they have all begun to dry rot so will need replacing sooner or later.
My plan:
Get it running.
- i am going to clean the gas tank and get the rust out of there.
- Im no small engine genius but will tinker with what i can, and then seek the help of those i know once i get past my level of expertise.
if it gets to running:
- treat the rust areas throughout the exterior to the engine and rims
- seafoam treatment
- fix the crack on front fender
- possibly new tires
- cargo rack of some sort on the back, if possible
Now for the questions:
1. to remove rust from gas tank, i have always heard to pour white vinegar in the tank with a little bit of water. rinse and repeat. I have also heard to us vinegar and pennies and shake it around. Would this work to treat the rust in the tank, or should i look into having it acid dipped? I have no clue where i would take it locally
2. After sitting for possibly 10 years or so where should i start in terms of the engine before starting?
3. Tires. If it gets running i will ride them for a while and monitor them. What is the best source for tires in the 22x11x8 size? Could i get a different size and use the same wheels?
4. Rear cargo bars. I know some of the 185s and 200 have the rear cargo bars. is there a kit, or source for ordering some type of set up? doesnt have to be big, but enough to be of use.
Im very excited to get it going and hope its a finish process by next hunting season which is what i will be using for. Thank you all very much for the help to these questions so i can get the ball rolling.
