hey there guys I'm Building A drag Slash dune trike this winter. I have a 77 tt500 engine and a surplus of tri z parts. As soon as I have the engine jigged into the frame I will start a build thread . But for now I was wondering if anybody has made tbeir own rubber engine mounts for a situation like that. I know the tt doesnt have a countershaft balancer so vibration will be an issue. Or should I just solid mount it to the frame? Thanks

A friend of mine had a cr500 in a quad frame. The conversion was already done when he got it but he did a lot of work fighting the vibrations. I don't know if he visits here much anymore, but send him a pm and see if he has any advise. he goes by Senator

if you can rig up a set of rubber mounts, i would do it.. i always wanted to put a cr500 on a R frame but heard that the vibration wasnt good and stressed " things" . good luck with the build and dont forget pics..

Me and a buddy built one of these already...We had to stretch the frame 3.5 inches just to get the engine IN (these engines are HUGE in size...and very tall!). We also utilized the down tube and lower cradle from the dirtbike (the down tube slid right into the neck of the Z frame). Engine solid mounted in the frame, vibration only noticeable at idle (but he does have inverts and pro-tapers). He built a custom top mount tank that holds oil in the front, and gas in the rear. We mounted a 2 small B&S oil coolers, one on each side, where the rads would have gone. When it was all done, we had to shorten the swinger 3 inches, to get the thing to hook up! WHAT A TORQUE MONSTER!! Def a good trail bike! Ill see if I can dig up some pics.

Yes thankyou. I was planning on cutting the frame at the cradle and stretching it. Also cutting the top engine support out of the z frame and replacing it with a taller one. I want to keeo the z look so I will probably get an under seat tank made and run a z fuel pump. From what I measured I was going to stretch 4in. 158465 but thats where I was going to cut it hopefully thats what you did so I know it will work!

this is the only pic I currently have of the bike (and the rest of his toys...), but I will hit him up for some pics. I bet Raffa has some pics of it from icefest or the Jamestown indoor, we'll see if he jumps in here.

Looks like it fits good! I hope raffa has a couple more pics. I was also worried about the kicker but it seems to be in a pretty good spot. Did you stretch the frame like I drew or did you extebd the cradle forward?

Thanks alot raffa I appreciate it. Looks like it was extended how I thought. Altough I am going to use the engine cradle from the bike because it looks really good! I was looking on djthephotoguys facebook and thers a few acton pics and its a good lookin bike. How well does the power work in the trike? I know their not hp demons but have tons of torque. Totally opposite to my z

He doesn't say anything about it and I really don't know much either

I wouldn't be overly concerned with the vibrations, but that's just me. Counter-balances are great, but far from a necessity. Remember, Tecates didn't come with a counter-balance right from the factory. I could be wrong, but 350X's didn't have a counter-balance, did they?

The length of stroke and piston size of a 500 thumper is alot more than a 2 poke. Chances are the tecates crank is balanced to the weight of the piston. Also I know the dirtbike suspension soaks up a lot of the vibrations as compared to putting the engine in a atv or trike frame. It doesnt look like the tt above used rubber mounts so I dont think I will need them.

Basically you just discounted everything I just said but yet came to the same conclusion.
Do what you want, but like I said, you don't need rubber mounts. To be honest, it was a stupid idea altogether. The only bikes I've ever seen with rubber motor mounts are Harleys and god knows they need them. The only quads I've seen with rubber motor mounts are Polarises and they're just weird for the sake of being weird.
