As the title says I bought a brand new carb, dropped the air box and got an air filter. It wont stay running and as im giving it gas to keep it running it sounds like its bogging down. At first it sounded like it had a airleak but i found the problem and tightened it. It might possible still have one not sure. My wheeler even sounds deeper? Not sure why. I read somewhere if it bogs its either getting to much gas or to much air I just dont remember what I read lol. It's an 85 200M.
Thanks everyone,
Cody

You need to check the float height.

I bought a brand new knock off carb from ebay for my 200X and it actually came with no main jet in it . Advertised as a direct bolt on and ride.

haha wow no main jet? I actually opened mine up and saw everything was there! Everything I do (adjusting the air/fuel mixture) doesn't really do much. I put it in to much and it kills. I turn it out a bit and it will actually idle but still seems like it bogs a little. My idle is fine. Also does anyone know why my wheeler is deeper sounding? Is it because I got rid of the airbox and put just an airfilter there? Would an airleak cause a deeper sound??
Initially I was thinking too much air due to your removing the air box and allowing more in. However, If your backing the airscrew out (letting more air in) makes it idle better, then You're probably actually getting too much fuel. If your idle is fine, I would drop the main jet one or two sizes at a time until it will rev healthy when you stab the throttle. You may need to raise the needle clip a step as well depending on where in the throttle range it bogs.

This I don't understand. Im not sure why taking the plug out would strip the threads just stop cranking it down so tight:naughty:
If its true though, you better jet that main down before you foul that last plug lol

After reading this, you may need to drop the pilot size as well. I'm playing the same game with my 84 R. Jetting is time consuming and time is very scarce in my life right now. good luck man

@Mack - Ok well one time I put the spark plug in.. at .. a uh angle lol and the top of the threads are stripped. There is like half of the thread left. It was difficult getting it in there. I might do the needle thing.. by backing it out a few notches.

Actually now that I think about it.. it was running better when I turned the screw out.. so giving it more gas made it run better? It wasn't bogging as much and idled for awile.
