Been wanting one for awhile now. Just love the extreme look. Complete torque monster. Quad doesn't feel huge and bulky. Amazing trail bike and very tame usable loads of power.

Got a crazy good deal on it, guy needed money. All stock except for tires and rims. Basically only issue is the fenders cosmetically. They r scratched up all over but that's black plastic for u. Everything else is in perfect working orders.

Big plans for this. Ill post as I build it up.

I've heard they ride really nice with the IRS. It is kind of an overlooked bike, because you just really never hear too much about them.

Yeah I have been wanting one for a bit so now I have a nice baja like rough trail quad. Also my first fuel injected ATV.

I plan on blacking it out. Powder coating a whole bunch of stuff and doing Elka suspension and things like new bumper grab bar nerf bars, handle bars, levers, exhaust, intake and fuel programmer. Should be awesome.

I have only ever run into one of those on Tug Hill once so far. That's as close as I have come to one. Definitely a mean looking beast... Looks like Darth Vader... :)

Hows that IRS for aggressive sliding at speed?? I've always wondered about that.. It would seem to have a fair bit of squishy body roll in my mind, but that's only a guess on my part... Only IRS machines I have ridden are Grizzly's and King Quads and I don't like how topsy turvy they are when pushing it a little hard round a bend... Of course not really what they were intended for either..

Hey! Looks like mine's evil twin haha. I absolutely love mine, probably one of my favorite bikes to ride. super comfy, tons of power all over the place. the handling is different but not terribly, takes a slightly different technique to ride hard in the corners. i put a barker full exhaust and programmer on mine and it really woke her up. I think you'll enjoy riding it. I loooove mine in the sand-

i really wanted a black front master cylinder so i decided to take it all apart and powder coat it. came out really nice but was a pain to take apart with the sight glass in the reservoir.

I had missed this Ryan. Too much fun aren't they!! I am always contemplating rather I love my Outty's or XX's the best on 4. Mine has slip on,programmer and flatter rear rims. What a massive difference from a stocker. Whole new bike. LOVE what you're doing with this! Even though,,I always seek out red ones to buy and you're going blacked lol. If I had time I would scour the forums and set mine up better, but I don't even get time to ride it as it is. That reservoir was a labor of love lol....

That's funny u mention the color. I always have the hardest time switching from oem color scheme on things but through all my atv's I don't have any completely "murdered out" black. But both my car and truck r.

So since I'm going to every length with this build I decided to finally have a blacked out machine.

I got my bumper and grab bar and will be powder coating those and the hubs black very soon. It should really look great with those. Also got my +2 steering stem and that's black. So that will raise my bars up so that standing and maneuvering in anyway will be comfortable and u won't have to bend over.

I really can't wait to get seat time on this in the upcoming season. Not sure how I will ride it instead of a TPC though....

Got my black top front fender piece and put red honda wing decals on. Also got my bumper and grab bar and powder coated them black and installed.

I got my new seat cover and stapled that on. (Not fun at all with the size and shape of this seat...)

Also did my new rear sway bar and my rear red steel brake line.

And I powder coated all 4 hubs black.

It's getting there.

yeah i saw they were going for cheap. i got a pretty crazy deal on mine.

it was used but the guy mentioned he needed cash to pay tickets or he was gonna lose his license so in came the super low ball offer and away i went with a 700XX.

i still have a good amount of stuff i wanna do. i have a full set of brand new OEM plastic to put on but i think the extended max clearance a-arms and the fox float evol shocks r next. cuz then ill do my red stainless brake lines up front and my extended steering stem at the same time.

Yes I am doing the EHS Racing big 3.

Barker full exhaust, programmer, and intake.

And I'm doing a stage 3 hot cam so I guess it will be the big 4, lol. Should be pretty nuts though.

chipped away at some more.

got these really cool center caps for the front hubs to cover the castle nut and cotter pin. i powder coated them black along with the hubs and then got black lug nuts. so it really cleans up the wheel and hub areas. completely black. i drilled 3 small holes in the face of the hub to fasten the cap to it. really works out perfectly.

well I'm keepin on keepin on. got my Pro Armor Fat Pegs nerf bars. they were silver so i drilled the rivets on the logo plates and powder coated them black. also did the spacers for in between the pegs and the net brackets for synching them to the frame rails and did my brake pedal and shifter. i didnt clean all the dust off it before the last photo cuz i have PLENTY more to do on this build.

Really nice! My friend had a red one he bought brand new and although he kept it stock the thing had plenty of power but you could tell it was really corked up! I think Honda missed the mark with the quad though and that is why it didn't sell very well. Loyal Honda riders were begging for a 700cc quad like the Raptor and the only thing Honda gave them was the 700cc's, which resulted in them jumping ship and buying the Raptor. My friend paid close to $8,000 for his and not even two years later you could but them for $4,800 and slightly used ones for even cheaper, I really felt sorry for the guy.

TatTooL23
03-19-2013, 08:38 PM
Personally I think it's way better of a platform. I mean for $800 u have about 52 wheel horse power and that's with cv shafts. So at the motor it's a lot of hp. Not to mention over 40ft pounds of torque that is there almost te entire rpm range. And that's with 22 inch rear tires. They eat up raptor 700's. I can't wait.

Oh and plus its not a yamaha so it wins just cuz it will run and not have problems lol.

yamaha225dr
03-19-2013, 10:41 PM
I think it's a great platform also, especially if you need the ground clearance but a lot of people moaned and groaned about the IRS cause of the extra weight and body roll versus a solid axle but the IRS really helps with traction and comfort!

TatTooL23
03-19-2013, 11:17 PM
Yeah. Either people hate it or love it with the IRS. But I actually installed a 11/16ths sway bar from L8ton Racing. Everyone who has done it says it makes a world of difference and should be the first mod done to them. Makes them act a lot like a solid axle machine when drifting and sliding but through rough uneven terrain it still articulates to make it very comfortable.

I can't wait for this snow and most of the mud to be gone. Now we just another foot of snow...guess ill be taking out the sled this weekend.

Lol. I'll be at hatfield in August.

I mean come on I ride with a guy with a 700 raptor. My friend hands him his as* with his trx450r with an HRC kit and I as well embarrass him with my red TPC. Off the line and top speed in sand/dirt.

I will assure you. Anyone who has ever OWNED a XX,,knows what an animal they are.. They didn't sell because there aren't a lot of "quad " riders ready to invest in a $8799 machine. But those who own these and get used to them and ride them, will voraciously tell you what fun they are!

09RappySE
03-20-2013, 05:21 PM
There are plenty of people willing to shell out that kind of coin for a quad, they did not sell well because most people wanted a SRA big bore quad and that is not the route honda went and their sales showed it.

TatTooL23
03-20-2013, 09:23 PM
Yeah. To each his own of course. I love honda and the 700XX is an awesome machine. The reason they stopped making them is because the quad market has fallen out from under everyone. Nothing sells sport wise. If u think that's not the case y then did even ktm stop production on all quads?? There was no money in it, no sales. Atc007 is correct.

I love it though. And honestly I think yamaha hit it right with the 700 raptor. It shouldn't even have been named a raptor though cuz the 660 is such a massive piece of crap it tainted the 700's name. I like the 700 raptors yamaha finally made a quad worth buying since the banshee. But they should have called it something else cuz it's such a change and completely different and much better.

so i worked on the front end. got my +2 Teixera steering stem in, and my Houser +.75 max clearance a-ams on and my Fox Float Evol X's. in the process i powder coated my front spindles black, and painted my front calipers black. i installed the 3 piece red stainless brake lines. and i just got my Teixera brake line clamps to put on so ill more pics when those r all in place neatly.

then i did my Barkers exhaust. i taped it off and powder coated the can black and the billet tip black. i drilled the rivets in the "Barkers" badge then re-riveted it on after it was powdered. i also powdered the heat shield on the pipe black, and they sent me an extra "barkers" badge so i drilled the shield and riveted that on there so it wasnt such a big plain black section.

Tool, your quad looks so trick! Did you put many hours on it before the new mods? What type of power gain are you expecting?

TatTooL23
04-19-2013, 05:47 PM
i didnt put much time on it all before all these mods. i bought it this winter and just started going crazy with it.

supposed to be around 52HP to the rear wheels with what i have done. so its a pretty significant increase. 52 at the wheels with two CV shafts is a lot. they rob some power as the power goes from the motor. so at the motor is pretty high.

i cant wait

TatTooL23

So finally have some rides on this thing. Wow it's amazing! I put a 13 tooth front sprocket on it for a little more low end power because I went with the 22 inch rarz2 copy rear tires. Also this thing has so much top end power it's ridiculous so I could really afford losing some mph on top cuz I will just never use that trail riding. So before I switched the sprocket I speed tested it with my radar gun.

Got 83mph and wasn't at the rev limiter yet. I feel I could have crept to 85 with a little more room. But yeah very very fast either way.
