I figured thats what would happen when you bought that bike. What a shame.

What a Shame?? The bike was in TERRIBLE condition. The swingarm was the nicest part on the bike. This would have most likely gone to someone who would have had NO idea what it was and possibly ruined it. Now it goes to someone that will preserve it and put in on a nice build.

Please Xowner, elighten us on what you feel should have been done with the bike that had a broken frame, fenders, ripped seat, rusted axle, etc. etc. etc. Please! Dying to know!

Seams I struck a cord here. With what the bike WAS listed (Im sure you didnt pay asking price) for IF the frame, fenders, seat axle and etc etc was junk. How can you afford to pay what he was asking. I Was going by the pictures of the bike it looked like was a solid bike. Not a garage queen but a nice rider bike. I know they are hardly what is shown in the pictures most of time. IF it was junk then so be it but What sucks is when nice bikes dont even get a chance to go whole. I know its yours to do what you want with it.

he bought it who cares, really.
funny some people do nothing but part stuff out on here and they never get "called out"
i have seen perfectly good ATC 250R's on this site get completely parted. the "user" buys them just to do that. ohhhh but because he has been around awhile and has lots of posts no one says anything to him.
makes no sense, but here on "High School 3 Wheeler World" its normal.
good luck with sale man, i hope it makes u 10 times what u paid for the bike, cuz u know 90% of everyone else here would do the same thing. some r just mad they didnt get the chance to do it first.

I could go on and on, but I do not have time to sit here and post pics all day. What I really wanted was to get this swingarm cleaned up and to someone that really wants it. I will probably not make much money at all on this, but was more excited about the swingarm. I spent a lot of time cleaning it up and polishing it. My hope was that you guys would be excited about a really cool part and all you do is trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro, so I will stay off the forums from now on.

Tattoo, you know why no one says anything??? Probably becasue they are happy to get the parts THAT YOU CAN NO LONGER BUY. We have a LOT of bikes in CA and most of them are not selling. Just like this one that had been listed for sale 3 times previously. If you have such a problem with a bike or two being parted out then go take a trip down to you local Honda dealership and try to buy a new rear caliper, or master cylinder, or ANYTHING.

You are correct, the bike looked much better in the pics and none of the issues were mentioned. I was able to get him to budge a little, but not much. Again, this was purchased with the intent of salvaging the swingarm and getting it to someone that will appreciate it. The seller had no idea what it was and could have sent it to the recylcer as scrap for all he cared.

I know!! and the damn guy did not want to budge off 1600. On top of that the bike was listed with a '300 kit', like so many folks here in CA like to do. Naturally the motor was bone stock, on it's stock bore.

That thing was roached! I hope you get your money on the swingarm. I bought a 81 250r with a Mugen ME360 kit on it. I caught some flack for parting it, but much like yours, the rest was roached.

Dale, keep up the good work man.
Dont worry about the jealous folks on this board that "complain" how tragic it is to part out a bike. The fact is, some bikes have a limited shelf life and this one was well past its expiration date. Except for that dull and unpainted swingarm.....
More than likely, these folks who are giving you some mild grief are just *slightly* jealous that you found it, and have somewhat regular access to these finds. I know I most certainly am!
Given how few of these swingers were built, and how many fewer survived, they really belong in a collection and under ownership that appreciates and understands what they are, and can protect them for the future.
The fact is, you are providing a service and actually preserving, and writing, ATC history. By finding and putting these parts out in the world for sale, you are not leaving them buried in the annuls of history to some long forgotten ad on the back page of ATV News (and that likely measured a forgettable 1"x2").
No sir, you are finding the goods, taking the time to secure them, clean them up, and then put them out there and market them and for others to buy, and who otherwise would never have any chance, anywhere, to find a part like this.
The facts are simple: We have a small handful of solid ATV collectors out there (about 20-30, and maybe more) who live all over the world and who have an intense appreciation for rare and high quality racing parts, and the funds to buy the goods.
But those same collectors are not about to buy a whole bike and deal with the shipping and the rest of the headaches. So whatever profit you make, I hope its a decent one, because you are providing a service, and with this swingarm, you found a really cool, and really rare item.
So keep it up, and I look forward to seeing what you else you dig up down in that So-Cal honey pot of barn find sun baked sweetness...
And dont let the whiney members on this board get you down, I can pretty much assure you that they will NOT be the ones doing the upper end bidding on this item.
Keep it up!
mxnick
PS: I spoke to some guy in San Diego last week who claims to know some other dude who calls himself the "ATC King". Well, Mr ATC King swears up, down, left and right that he has an '87 ATC 250r, and that it is still in the crate. Ill PM you his number, maybe you can go grab that as well...but maybe I wouldnt part that one out....but then again, how much is a NOS set of 87 250r fenders, seat, headlight bezel and rad shrouds really worth????!!! Hell, I would bid the cardboard crate with the 1987 label on it up to $500 on feebay!!
:p
