Well,,,, wow. what a month. At the risk of boring everyone, i'll start at the beginning. Last week in November I was riding my beater 200m along some train tracks. the right foot peg catches on a cable hidden under some leaves and off i go. I was in the air awhile. I'm not sure if Felix Baumgartner still holds the free fall record. Landed head first in the nice soft rocks. Helmets save lives. Anyway, bad bruises all around, (especially the groin, :(), but no real, "hospital worthy" damage. Bent the rear axel. So, I limp it home and soak my injuries in bud light. "I need a real 3 wheeler", I thought to myself. The guys in New Hampshire REQUIRE rear suspension just to post on their thread (just kidding) and I knew the ol' reliable M was just not enough trike for me to fulfill my 3 wheeler dreams. So, after convincing the bride that, "because of the crash" i needed a better, faster three wheeler, i went shopping. Right out of the gate a "too good to be true" 85 200x pops on c-list for $650. I go see it, and, although it was too good to be true, it was very decent, & i walked out with it for $500 bucks. Cracked front fender and a small-but-annoying burn hole in the rear plastics from a sh@$ty exhaust job. Runs good, shifts good. (and i have a DG exhaust stockpiled)

So, "All set" i thought. This is gonna be "my 3 wheeler". This is where it gets interesting. Mind you, i have the aforementioned 200m as well as a 95% complete 200m restoration (hers) as well as a 125m in good shape. The 200x, purchased on a friday, brought the total to 4 trikes owned. The following wednesday i'm on c-list and a 1985 250sx pops up for $400 dollars. Original owner atc, always garaged, has not been registered since 89 and not started in 6 years. I can see a speedo in the picture!!

I was on the computer when it popped and i replied immediately. A few hours go by and i don't hear anything. I go to sleep that night. When I wake up, check first thing, and no reply. About noon on thursday I get a reply "Sorry, Sold". So, oh well. missed it. Then, out of the blue, friday at work i get an email. "Still interested?" with a phone number. i call the guy right away. He tells me that the first guy backed off and I was the second email. He also said that he got 15 other offers of over $500 (even though he was asking 4). i told him i'd be on the way with $500. I grabbed a 12 pack and hit the road (my buddy drove) and an hour later i'm in the guys garage. he tells me that he and his brother each got a 250sx in 85. he registered it until 89, then lost interest. he was a big sled guy and that story checked out. he had a few money sleds in the garage. the dust on the fenders also verified the "hasn't run in 6 years" story. I gave him the $500. he was a good guy. even said that he thought he had the certificate of origin somewhere and would look around for me!!! I asked him about the first guy and he told me that his wife would not let him spend the $400!!!! WOW. I took it home and broke the carb down. cleaned and re-installed. Started right up!!!!! runs great! inside of tank is the best i've ever seen. showroom. no dry-rot on the skins, but worn rears. one rear doesn't hold, but it may be a valve stem. front is good. oil was not very bad, considering. Front fender has a crack. rears have little cracks on either side of the seat, but very, very minimal. That Sunday i took it out for a test. thing is AWESOME!!! 3rd gear is making a noise i don't like, so, its not perfect. Reverse cable is stuck as well. Also, the speedo does not work. you can see that its dinged from where it was rolled once upon a time. it is complete though. Overall, i am very pleased!!! Anybody wanna buy an x?? kidding. :naughty: Best part is, i just mixed the 250 in with the others and the bride, in all of her wisdom, has not figured out that it is different from the x yet!!!!!

CLEANED UP PICS TO COME!!!

Nice finds!! Go through that speedo, its probably something simple, could even be a bad cable. Disconnect the cable from the speedo and roll the trike forward a bit to see if the cable spins as the front wheel turns. I just worked on one with a bad cable a couple weeks ago. Got really lucky and found a cable on eBay. I am doing a repair/restore of a badly damaged speedo right now and documenting it on here, some of those pictures might help you if you have to take it apart...

Anyway enough on the speedo...

Great finds! Just hope the wife doesn't notice now.. If she does tell her you don't need a christmas present now. I can usually get by with that.

Not the fastest, they're not built for speed, but man do those baby's do great in the woods. I've been triking about 8 years now & I've always had an SX, they're awesome bikes! Good luck with yours!!!!!!!

I love my sx. The elec start and reverse are so convenient when on a trail system. I have 2 inch wheel spacers on either side (which made it a whole different animal in terms of handling and stability- highly reccomend!) in addition i have a 200x front end on it which is a great upgrade. The auto clutch is esp helpful when your sunk deep in a mudhole to lol.:beer
