Exhast Ring on Tri Z:
What does the ring that goes around the head piple look like? You know, the one that goes into the cylnder right where the pipe connects.
I found a steel, silver ring that is thin and looks like it is the one I have heard everyone talking about. Its about 1 mm thick and 2 cm wide and about the cirumferance of the the headpipe flange.
Is this the ring I need???

all you need is a good bead of high quality silicone. just make sure to let it dry overnight or it will blow out and leak.

The ring SUCKS!! all it did was leak when i had it on my tri-z. Then i switched to silicone and the problem was gone. :-D

what about silicone and the ring? Does that work better??
Right now I have a big ole bead of dried silicone that I put around the flange and the cylnder. It still blows some exhast at the joint.
I will use both and see how it works.
Thanks for hte help...I guess that is the 'ring'.

In my expierence, what happens when you don't run the ring or silicone, or the ring loses tension, the exhaust vibrates all around on the flange and will actually "wear it out". I've noticed this more so on non counterbalanced engines like the Z and Tecate. My 250R doesn't leak any and all it has is the ring. But it also has fairly low hours compared to my Z and KXT.
