One of my close, close friends is one of my best friends uncles. Hope that wasnt too confusing, anyways he used to have a tecate back in the day he talks about it all the time! He has wanted another one for years and hasnt been able to find one, I found an 85 tecate for 500 bucks....it looks good and is completely stock! Only thing it needs is carb rebuilt. Is this a good price? Are there any cons to the 85 versus 86/87 besides looks? I am going to try to purchase this for him as a surprise...expensive surprise but he has always beeen there for me.

That seems cheap wouldn't it? Do you have pictures? If it is in great condition and only needs a carb rebuild (probably 20 bucks lol) then yea 500 is a great deal.

If it's mint your going right now to get it hahaha. I've never seen any tecates for sale before. I think once in another state other then that never. Pretty rare.

Yeah im gonna try to help him get it, not sure how but ya!
Everything that doesnt run "just needs the carb cleaned"... im a TECATE guy, i love them but when a T3 doesnot run check for spark. Stators and flywheels are the tecates weakness, look for spark.. You can get a rickey stator setup for $200ish

ya, i agree with mik6.. people sell things 4 a reason = buyer beware.... but if it would run with only a carb cleaning then thats a great deal good luck and keep us posted please...
