You mean will be!!!! She's built and alive. Couple of small touch up and improvements but she'll be up there and storming around with the other 500 that roams the trails of richmond. I've heard wispers of a 700cc threewheelr (think Maico 82hp) but it's to soon to confirm anything yet. Hopefully by winter there will be a pipe like this on it.

Hello TecateDan
Hey, that color looks plenty close enough to the original color I sent you. I think it's actually a little bit nicer, good eye! You may know this already but just in case you don't you can spray lacquer over that which will make it easier to keep them clean longer and protect the color from sand a little. Just test it on the backside of the wheel. I’ve done it literally hundreds of times. I use Verathane semi gloss or sometimes satin from home depot. Heat it up in a pan of hot water and warm the rims in the house first or it will fish eye.

They would actually lock up the front wheel fairly easily when they were new then fade under hard use but 29 year old brake drums with used or non OEM shoes...just brake early the first time, lol.

I can tell you it stopped just fine. the issue is constant adjusting. You have alot more surface area to stop with the drum but it needs to be adjusted alot. I hope I get a ride You and john get one on mine of coarse. and a race will be in order aswell lol.don't extend the swinger to close to tf!! you will need a new spring. even with a + 2 I had to respring my race bike.

Is the top secret bracket a beverage retaining device? I thought this was going to be a rat rod for TF?
TecateDan
05-26-2013, 08:55 AM
Rat rod is a relative term... Not having the aluminum polished and everything else powdercoated. Secret bracket is certainly not a self charging cooler. That's next years project

Thanks billy. Just want to let everyone know that this machine was built to be able to use the stock air box as seen in pics. However ill be running a pod filter at tf unless its raining or muddy. Most of what we do up here is muddy and we so it will be a must. It will also be good for ice racing and snow storms. The problem is the bike is built so tight that its impossible to access the carb with the airbox on. U literally have to disassemble 10-11 pieces to change a jet. So it's gonna be pod for. Tf so we can get the tune dialed in then back to airbox installed after tf

No Mounted Pics. I actually Subbed this work out (John Paid for it) This is what the port map was for. It's custom built for our motor and porting. THe piecec were cut on a water jet, rolled and gas welded. Tig And Mig weaken the pipe and cause craks according ot the expert??? THis is actually a pic sent from the shop that is building it. It's in the mail as we speak and should be here next week. Will need to build the mount off the foot PEG this week and then John and I are heading ot a local pit to Set up the Jetting and suspension on the +10 Swinger and new suspension that I put together. Providing steve can turn the mill work for hte shock I need around in time..lol
Hopefully next Sundat there will be pics up on the site of the 84 font end and all gold swinger and carrier parts throwing a 100' roost !!!
If this pipe works hte way I hope it does will drop the machine of for a custom inframe pipe that will be tuned for woods riding that we do here in New England. Probably gonna Need an Ice racing pipe too... OR they do make a KX640 big bore?? We'll see how she runs this year and if we need more than we shall see. I know there are a few guy (no Names as all projects are top secret) who are looking at making 140+hp in the not ot distant future. SOunds insane but I know the people and the projects and these are real number!!!! With the short shut down at haspen some people will probably need to be deploying parachutes to stop...lol
As for me if I can figure out how to make the final drive on a polaris 1000 triple work ina trike frame I would love ot go that route or if I could find a Maico 700 or a twin KX500 OR 540 or even 640 Bike. Scroll down to post 3 in the linke below to check this out. Ben had a 2-cate but I may have to build a twin-cate

Re: gas welding VS TIG. Did anyone mention purging the inside of the pipe with argon while TIG welding it as an option? It's mandatory when welding tanks and ducts with TIG. I always figured that would be how a pipe like that would be built, but then again I recall something about being able to adjust a gas flame that might have an effect on the weld afterwards by annealing it a little.

Guys, the bike for cripes sake.
I rode it the other day. It starts up as easy if not easier than a 250. It fires right up and runs great. The jetting was off when I rode it and it was just our cob-job pipe, but it ran great and it'll pick the front tire up at will in any gear. It has so much more in it though. I feel like it was only at 60-75% potential upon first assembly with the random jets and the home made pipe. You could jet it and use that pipe I'm sure in the woods, but the drag pipe is gonna be the tits. There were a couple of times the other day it tried to rip my arms out of my sockets when it hit just right. Raped ape.

I guess i'm fortunate to have two shops near me, one +/- 25 mins that sells pretty much everything VP in 5 gallon and 55 drum (at $15 a gallon), and the other 25 mins in the opposite direction that sells VP 110 for $8.50 per gallon. pretty cheap!!

Okay First I want to say thanks to Justben for helping me get my shock back together!!!!
THe 10+ swinger needed a stiffer spring but the one I bought with the (hopefully) corect spring rate was the wrong size for the shock body. Had DC mill up this sweet piece yesterday. THe only problem was I showed up at his house at 11 didn't leave until 4:30. I planed being there for 30 minutes. We had to break into a house and a gargage (owner was okay with it so no laws broken) clean two cat boxes, buy cat litter, water some plant (House plants) buy 24 beers about 18 were dranken. All in all though got the part done and now the Drag shock is complete. Also got the last piece for the 84 front end (Tire) so hopefully some pics of that will be up later today!!!!
Thanks again steve

NOrmally I run an immaculate shop!!!! I went down stairs after rebuilding the forks and couldn't help but laugh at what a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro mess my shop is right now. I can't belive a nice trike came out of this crap hole. Need to clean befor I can do anything else. Left the bulkhead door open during a sudden down poor and flooded the shop after spending about 3 hours grinding down there so it made a nice mud pie on hte floor...

She idles like a champ but had to jet the idle circut down to a 50.. Wierd but that's what it took to get max rpm at 1.5 turns on the idle screw. Top is way fat which is fine for now. Drained fuel and packed it down for transport as Fabio is rolling out on Saturday. Ripped a good 15' section out of the neighbors yard and had the front come up on me hard when I launched cause it really hooked up since it's a bit muddy out there today. fixing the low circut Seemed to really help. I think the needle needs to go up a clip and the main needs to go down several sizes but all will be confirmed in indianna

No.. Two crashes. The dr on the backbone and the 500 somewhere else not sure where. The crash was pipe side up on the 500 so from the reports I'm getting we lost the headlight and bent the handle bars on the 500. The good news is that WOT on the 500 is crazy !!!

So all talk of this thing promptly ended.
No pics of the damage from it being wrecked. No talk about how it ran or how it did in the TF drags. Did it win at all?
Billy Golightly
06-28-2013, 11:14 AM
It won several races and was really fast in the drags, I'd say for a first year machine being there it did EXTREMELY well. There was practically no damage from the wreck, I watched it happen in person (Although, 4mph might be a bit of an understatement :)) It pretty much just got whipped, caught a rut, and then slung itself over with him under it. We all kinda sat there (About a dozen or so of us) and watched for a moment expecting him to hop up, but he never did, so we all hauled ass over there and then when we got o ver there he had his arm up with a thumbs up, so it wasn't bad thankfully.
The 500 ran incredible! Was fast as hell!
Like billy said its a 1st year trike. They really wanted it to represent 84, fat tire, drum brake and all. As the boys start weight shaving and more tuning it WILL be even faster!
It is 1 of my favorite 1/2 tons out there!

Yep, no shame in how it performed. It was a very fast machine every time down the strip.
With one more year to tweak things it will be right there, because it was in the hunt all weekend.
One mod i'd make would be is shorten the stinger pipe, and put an aluminum silencer on the end.
Prolly make more torque, and take off the high pitch edge. In addition, lower that machine...
It would stand up every time, and that is a huge waste of energy. Looking forward to a much improved
Machine in "14" Good job guys!

I was laid off for 2 months before trike fest and actually pushed my start date back a week so I could go to TF. Been Jammin at the new job and busy taking care of the pregnant wife so not a ton of time to be on the boards. For me personally it was a grreat sucess. It will ultimately be a trail machine not a drag racer. I think we won our first two heats then lost to last years winner Trish (banshee motor) Won another race then lost to Raff's yz490 on Nitrous. We beat him in grude drags the day before and even his jockey said it was too close to call at the finish line. Overall the machine was all I expected. There were definately some problems like the factory tailight bracket sheared off from vibration. THe overflow bottle is junk (can't stand the vibration) the SX tool box exploded from the vibration. THe machine it's self though started first kick every time. Launched super consistently and never hesitate even once. Frame held up fine and she is a great machine. THe shift shat is bent and had a chan derailment that broke a case bolt. Nothing Major but the motor is comming back apart for repairs and I'm busy so may be a while before any more updates.

The bike was great, top to bottom. Dan really got this thing together in an unbelievable fashion. I had to jet it when we got there, but after that it ran flawless. Perfect low end torque, mid range, and an absolute screamer up top. It was as much a pleasure to cruise down the trail as it was to flog it up the strip. Very, very consistent power and launches and it was faster than a lot of the bikes there. All the people that were crying about the drum brake on the front, I did about half of my grudge matches (10-12 total) with just the front brake and it was fine. The rears gave out unexpectedly over a minor issue.
When Raffa's bike beat me on race day, I had no idea it was coming. I had been consistently faster than him prior to that race and was completely caught off guard when that bike showed up next to me right at the finish line. I don't think there was anything more I could have done, I go all out every time. He got us when it mattered, and that's what matters.
And thank you all for the compliments.

Now I know where my woman has been for the past few days. Take it easy on the bike but go for it with her.
