Restoring what my father bought new in 1984. Engine runs good. Putting it into gear I feel it go into first but wont budge when throttle is applied. I assume this means I need a new clutch. If so where do I acquire such. Secondly the battery isn't recharging while running, whats the problem there? Thanks for any insight.

Could be several things. Could be a bad battery...bad starter...bad relay or a combination of the three . Could be a cut wire. Got to have a good battery. And don't jump start it from an auto. Blow a fuse in a hurry.

If it's an old battery it could be bad. If it wont buge it could be clutches assuming the brakes aren't seized. If you can find a manual or download one it will be a world of help .

Well nothing is seized it was running fine for a little while and then just started not moving or just barely moving. So I guess its just the clutches. I put a new battery in it last year but still had the same problem. It turns but seems like its not enough juice to turn fast enough. I used the same battery it called for its a wet cell not sure if an AGM would do better cant seem to find one.

Get the battery tested. A standard 4 wheeler battery I think will work. If you can download a manual it will help. I'll see what I can find out and let you know. It does sound like the clutches are about gone if not gone.
I cant remember where I got my last battery. I have a 200ERN but haven't ridden it in 3 years and the battery is out. Ebay and some craigslist ads are good sources for parts. Some atv salvage yards may carry parts. But clutches you will prolly need new,

My 84 yamahauler also starts in just one pull so ive never even tried to free up the locked up starter or change the antique battery. I did manage to ride it a couple months before i realized that the headlight needed the battery to regulate the power lol. Got lucky and popped it in the barn before I made a couple miles out in the woods.
It can be colder than a well diggers patooty outside though and she'll still fire up in one pull.

the elec start issue could be a bad area on your stator, mine is like that, and wont start with electric, but every time with pull start. the no recharge to the battery is most likely a bad voltage regulator, I had to replace mine on my 225 and it fixed my issue with charging. I would definitely check out the clutches after checking the the tension on the clutch adjuster nut. here is a link for a downloadable manual for you http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manuals/

So looks like the rectifier is what regulates the voltage. Guess I'll be lookin for one of those.

yes sir, check ebay every once in a while you can find a good one for cheap on there or start checking atv salvage yards, as the ytm 200 and the ytm 225 use the same ones, just a slightly different length of wires, not sure on the yfm moto 4 or not, but they might be the same plug

Yup thats all it was. I suggest loosen the nut turn the bolt slight right-engage 1st gear then disengage. If it works the first time awesome if not repeat until the clutch engages properly. If that does not work...well looks like new clutch plates man.
