Finally got a 250R. Picked it up for $1200. Guy says its a 1986 but has a 1985 seat cover. Just got it a hour ago. going to play with it now.

Congrats! The black engine (instead of gray) and the headlight bezel suggests that it is an 85. $1200 for a good running R is a good deal!

Thanks everyone! yea! Great price! It was only 15 min drive away also. Guy I bought it off of said it was bored out but couldn't remember how much but engine seemed to want to rip the rear tires right off.lol Have to admit not sure how many gears it has I was too busy trying to keep front end down.lol I let you tomorrow.

i bet its all an 85, not just a bezel and seat cover lol. post pics of the rear brake set up. long as your happy.

YEAH thats how I felt when i got mine. by the time i got home it was late at night started her up and ripped those tires on the street a 10:00 pm !!! I had the others and had never gotten to ride an R, till i bought it.

The frame for me is how to ID the year, all the parts "could" be swapped out in the life of an R.

Your brake setup is 85 but that sprocket stay is aftermarket and is an 86 style, compare my second pic to your pic.



Couple areas to check to verify if the frame is 85 or 86, by the foot pegs, the rear tail light mounts and the rear gas tank mount.

The 85 frame has small steel brackets that are attached to the frame for the tail light, the 86 has brackets not attached to the frame and bolts behind the grab bar. Compare the pics below.

The 85 frame foot pegs there is no gap between the bolt holes, the 86 has an are where dirt and debris could build up, hard to describe.
