Hello all, I recently purchased an 85 ATC200s for cheap, not running of course, and now I know why. The pulse generator pin sheared on the cam, resulting in damage to the cam, PG base plate(minor), and a broken finger off of the spark advance weight set. I planned to use this as a donor engine for a mini buggy I'm currently rebuilding, and would like to know if this particular engine is worth repairing or should I scrap the idea and look elsewhere??

Any help is appreciated, btw, it does have solid compression, although I have not had a chance to hook a gauge up just yet, as the recoil is also giving me some grief.

The oil seems clean(no fuel smell) but old, not sure how long it sat, as I bought it this way. Did not have any air filter when I got it, no plastics at all, no seat, and the tank was painted with camo paint. I am worried that after dropping a bill on parts, only to find it smokes, or the trans giving me issues. I am looking at replacing the cam with the xr200 cam for a little extra umph, plus they are cheaper. My main question is if the internal parts of the pulse generator are interchangeable with similar year engines??

Depends on how cheap you can fix it for I guess. I would be worried about the buggy being under powered. The 200 is a great motor, just not the most powerful...

Well, it's alot better than the stock engine that is in it now, a 150cc with a cvt, making a mere 8hp..... at least this way I can gear it how I want, and still have speed to spare on the top end. I have already been looking at the high comp piston kit if it still won't do what I want it to, or prepared to find another donor engine if all else fails, this one was cheap and should be a simple install, thats why I picked it up. According to honda, this thing puts out 13.5hp and 11ft-lbs of torque, so a modest upgrade from stock, but not enough to require extensive mods to accommodate it.
