Badlands Aug. 1-4, 2013!

I have a bucket list of places I want to explore on my trike. I can really only afford a couple of "long halls" a year. This year it will be to the well know place called the Badlands. It is still in the planning stages but the dates have been made. Aug. 1 to the 5, since it is about an 8 hour drive for the Mrs. and I, two of the days will be spent on driving, so three wheeling riding will be from the 2 to 4. Not 100% sure if we will be riding much on the Sunday, that might be our slow return drive back to the great white north, lol (depends how the arse and body feels , lol).
Who's all in????
P.S.-on a side note, we are also riding Baldwin again in the first part of Oct., same set up as last year, amazing trails, great time, great people, great cabins! ( hopefully no snow/ rain this time, lol)

Sorry Howdy, that weekend is a holiday weekend for us Canadian folk, we need the extra day for travel or just to relax from all the miles we will be riding/travelling, lol. If you can swing it that would be great!

I'm assuming your talking about The Badlands in Attica Indiana? If so I've been there a few times, never on a 3wheeler but on dirtbikes and sport quads. Pretty good time. Very nice place to. Just remember it ain't sand its pea gravel. If you go when its dry out better be prepared to clean you airfilter if you ride very long. My 400ex was jetted to run with the lid off the airbox. About 4 hours into it my filter had to be cleaned out, it was starting to cut out some.

If you pay extra you can ride the MX tracks. There pretty sweet. Theres a shorter track by the road and a big track that winds threw the woods. There was some decent sized downhill and up hill jumps in the woods that were a blast on a bike. I would like to go back to the BL's but Aug is just too far for me to plan, heck I dont know what I'm doing today. LOL

Yes, you are correct in the place. I just wanted to start the thread for people that had to book time off work. I've riden in very dust conditions (trikefest last year! lol). I'm planning on buying a spare air filter so its a quick change out.

Bummer dude! I had a hard enough time finding something to jump before they built the mx tracks and now there gone! I take it they had to move the consession stand somewhere else too? It was in the parking lot last time I was there. Oh the memories... I was just looking threw my BL pics with a friend the other day.

The concession stand is up top in the parking lot. It use to be down at the bottom where you use to park but everything is up by the office. They've done a lot to the place since the new owners took over a few years ago.

Liway and I was talking and we figure it has been 5, maybe 6 years since we have been there so it is going to be like going to a whole new place for us. We have been there in the neighborhood of 25 times or so,,, just no trips in recent years.
Mighty good food comes from that little concession stand !
Liway found a wallet there once from a fella who left it on the table we sat at. We never opened it up but it was stuffed ! She turned it into office and we asked about if owner had stopped by as we was leaving late in that afternoon.
If I recall, the owners name who was working was named Tammy (her husband was huge into the rock crawlers) said YES and he was just flabbergasted, relieved,excited it had been turned in and was like sorta demanding to know WHO, but Liway had asked Tammy, no names please.

Its only about a month away now, just phoned down to the badlands to see if we could get a discount on admission. I talked her into a 10% discount, and told her that our group would be on three, lol. So when you sign in, say your from the 3wheelerworld group and here to ride! It turns out that there is a "trek" race for sat. evening, it starts after the park closes at 9. Not sure if anyone that is attending the ride has a bit more pull to get us a lower rate for the weekend, but it would be great. Not sure about the camping, does anyone know if we should reserve any sites? The web site is http://www.badlandsoffroad.com if anyone needs directions or has any questions about the "trek" event.

I will not be able to make it. i have a bit of advice to share with you, leave all alcohol at home or they will confiscate it at the gate and you will not get it back. There is a campground there, but I am not certain if they are affiliated with the park or not.

I did not read all the posts here but Just an FYI, Don't bring paddle tires. Thet don't work there, It is not sand. You are also required to have a flag. Last I knew there was no hight requirement.

I was planning on going to Rosé city but this ride is looking pretty interesting. I may be changing my current plans.

What are the trails like at the badlands?? We will have some inexperienced riders with us. Will they be ok or would we be better off not taking them there???

Rich there is riding for everyone there. Wide open gravel and sand, flooded and dry woods trails, trails with rocks the size of basketballs, steep hills in the woods. There is something there for everyone. There are even two huge steel drainage tubes you can ride through and splash down in the creek on the other side.

I just wish I could make it. I still may show up and surprise everyone. Depends on what's going on at the home front.

Campsites reserved are # 40,#41,#42 so far.
I asked if 4 adults (max people) and 2 trucks/trailers from different familys could "bundle" on 1 campsite and was told that should not be a problem.
Tapper, DeAnna, Liway and myself are figuring on #41. Jim Smith (coffin maker) and his son Kevin on #41 and Mr. Crumb, Eric + his bride plus a friend reserved #42.
Water + electric on these sites. I also asked if the generators in motor homes are allowed ALL night and was told they better darn well be quite ones or they will be asked to shut them off :).

Do you want a carton? I believe they are around $50 at duty free, king size or regular? I believe the "players light" are called "players rich flavour", is that what you like?

They are goin to be under lock and key just like my yuengling lager that I got from a buddy that went to Pennsylvania last week. Lol. I gained weight this ride !!! The meals prepared by Dianna + Liway + Jim was simply unforgettable. Omelets, burgers, scallop potatoes , salads, sweet corn + sausage + homemade donuts, deep fried goodies,,, oh my gosh the list goes on and on. Everyone got in on the action from preparation to of course eating and clean up.
Oh yeah,,, weather and riding was top notch to.
But the BEST part certainly was the friends and the new friends made,,, priceless.
My brother come up from his home town about 40 miles away with my great nephew on Saturday. It had been quite some time since brother and I was together so while him and I caught up on things (we both have the same occupation) great nephew Austin and Liway went riding for hours. Austin on her Polaris quad and Liway taking my Polaris trike. It was Austin's first time riding in a ORV park,,, basically first time doing any real riding at all. He is hooked :)
Liways Polaris quad winch got some use pulling me out of a couple of mudholes back in the woods and with the young man on a rental go cart looking thing we happened upon.

We had an outstanding time! Great to meet some new board members and of coarse to see the old ones. I have to agree with John, the meals were top notch! Thanks for all that helped, there was a lot of time and thought that went into getting them together. Thanks to all that came out to ride, you made it a special weekend for us that we will never forget!
I think I just about seen it all this weekend, from an astro 350x trying to going were a can am got buried to a p3 jumping out of a tunnel (plus a 250r, 350x, and a 400x, can't remember if the auto x hit it) into a water hole, to a 200x floating in in a pond, the hill climbs were outstanding. I wish I would have got a picture of Jason trying to climb the tree with his 500, lol. I hope Mr. Crum is feeling better, that was a hard tumble you took. Mrs. Tapper has a nice bruise on her back from her little tumble, thanks to John and Garry that helped her out. Sorry if I forgot any special moments, it was a very event full weekend. No rain at all during the day, but Friday night I thought we were going to float away! lol. The bandlands is a place to ride at least once!

some of my shots; theres a sweet station wagon we saw in IL on the way to the badlands lol. I tried to get Dave in the shot with the rainbow but it didnt come out right. Would have been perfect too; every upbeat positive minded Canadian like Dave Needs a glamour shot with a rainbow in the background while drinking their morning coffee ;) other pics are just the terrain, and a shot I caught of a wild 500R that came sprinting out of the woods! My camera flash scared it off though. I will try to put my gopro vids up later, the one where I wiped out is pretty entertaining to watch lol
