big red 250es no engine braking

my big red has no engine braking going down hills unless i blip the throttle a bit then it engages, then it drops off again, is there an adjustment for this or is something badly worn? any help appreciated.
is it a big job or not

Sounds like you need a new sprag [one way clutch] located behind the centrifical clutch on the right hand side. Does the kickstarter slip sometimes?

Here is a quote from the manual.

Quote, "The one way sprag allows the outer housing to rotate in only one direction, and also allows engine compression to be used to slow down the vehicle when the centrifical clutch weights are not engaged. [when coasting] " unquote.

The centrifical clutch is a left hand thread.
