I'm wanting to upgrade from the stock carb on my 82 250R. I have a Keihin flat side PJ23 from a CR 250 lying around.

Has anyone done this? Should I look for a more conventional carb swap?

Is there a thumb throttle out there from a different machine that will accommodate this flat side? I doubt the stock will have sufficient movement.
Aftermarket adjustable thumb throttle?

I've read and heard that the chrome on the slide can wear and chip, causing the throttle to stay wide open. Anyone experience this?

Air box modifications to make it fit?

Any advice and opinions are welcome.

Did some searching and thought I'd bump the thread.

Adjustable thumb can be $60 and up for a decent setup that will handle a 30-44 mm carb.
Have seen a few throttles to snowmobiles like the Pro X setup that may work, fairly cheap on E-bay.
Perhaps I'll man up and get used to using a twist throttle.

Some flat sides to certain years have an inferior coating on the carb, and depending on the year, they wear and chip off. Need to figure what my year is.

Air box modification? Guess I'll have to try it.
