If any of you have an '85 style 250r carrier kicking around could you please measure the bearing spacing for me outside to outside and post it up?
I have a Boss carrier and I think the bearing spacing is too close. If somebody could check that for me it will help me confirm or eliminate the Boss carrier as my problem.
Thanks! :beer

From the chain side it is .5 in from the outer edge of the carrier to the outer edge of bearing, and .65 on the brake side......if you need a different measurement, let me know as I still have my axle out...and I have a lonestar carrier (twin row)

Thanks Rappy.
Could you measure the bearing spacing. Looking for outside to outside measurment. Basically stick a measuring tape inside the carrier, hook one end of the tape to the outside of the bearing inner race (the surface the sprocket hub or brake rotor hub butts up against) and measure the distance to the outside edge of the opposite bearing. I come up with pretty close to 6.5" on my Boss twin row. Twin vs single should make no difference though as that outside spacing needs to be correct.
The measurements you gave me are very helpful and good to know as well. Thanks Sir! I owe ya one! :beer

Just checked mine with the measurements you just gave me and, mine is right on the money. Thank you. :)
I think I may have had a worn brake rotor hub somehow. I measured the length of the rotor hub and it was about .015 shorter than another hub I have on hand. The problem was I couldnt tighten the axle down without the rotor contacting the caliper saddle. I was initially thinking the bearing spacing wasn't correct on the Boss carrier. But now it seems to be just fine.

You are correct, mine is 6.5 in on the button from the outer edge of the bearings, I had the same issue as you with the caliper hitting the rotor when I bought the bike, and it turned out there were stock bearings in the aftermarket carrier, the twin row bearings were about 5mm wider causing the hub to recess too far into the carrier.....if it helps my hub depth on the carrier side is .6 in and total hub width is 1.77 in.

Yep, the better of my 2 brake hubs measured pretty close to 1.750 give or take a couple thousandths for a bit of corrosion from sitting around for a couple years. The other measured 1.600 give or take.
I think I will be good to go with this.
Thanks again for the help Rappy! :)
