going to look at an 86 200x for my son....is there anything specific that I should look for problem wise??? I know to look for cracks in frame, kicker problems, and the obvious stuff but anything special.....Thanks....Paul

Make sure tank isn't rusted out for sure cause it's a bear to get one. Then just check regular stuff you would on any trike. I'm sure many can offer more on this topic than me, but parts aren't as readily available for this year so check your bearing carrier and make sure no cracks.

The frames don't usually have any problems on the second gen 200x's. The square tube design is great and can take a heck of a beating. Look at the rear bearing carrier though and see if the bearings are shot. You can tell if you shake it by the handlebars how much play there is. Also, I have seen a lot of bent axles, and they can be difficult to get at times although there seems to be a few around lately. Other than that, the 86's have a smaller diameter kick start shaft than the 87's. Some were known to break. You can always pick up a spare shaft for peace of mind. They come up from time to time and are anywhere between 40-75 bucks. This way if it breaks, you are not waiting around for 2 months for one to turn up. All-in-all, they are great bikes and they shred pretty good for a 200!

the 2nd gen X motor parts interchange with the fatcat,trx200d, and there is one other i cant remember... but i would have to say the BIGGEST problem the 2nd gen X's have is a failing oil pump! on the 86 i had first motor went through 2 pumps and 3 chains (used but good when installed) and the second motor i built ate 2 chains up. there is deffinately something amiss with the chain/pump so deff. check for any weird noises on the right side(clutch cover) near the bottom front corner! when mine would start to fail you could hear clicking/clunking noises when it was revved slightly
