Anyone up for a group ride at St Joe state park?

Being newer to St. Louis, I have never been there before, but I hear it’s an awesome place to ride and it looks like I am taking up the torch to try and set up a group ride for this year. Hope to meet as many of you mid-westerners (and others) as possible!

and May 4-5 is the annual Midwest Rampage at Waynoka, OK I have been to that 2 years and enjoyed it.. Just a thought, I don't know if it will affect the turnout or not. I wouldn't mind making the Rampage too.. Hmmmm...

I still don't know my schedule, but worse case scenario I have to burn a vacation day or two. I'll hook up the camper and burn a trail once I find out what I'll be working.

For those of us that haven't been, what is the layout like? Do they have bathrooms, running water, showers? Can you tent camp? I've heard there is quite a bit of sand, does anyone run paddles or are there more hardpack trails?

Big, long flats, wooded trails, VERY NICE campground with running water and showers. Its more silt then sand. Some people bring paddles, mostly just for drag racing. The trails are hardpack. I would suggest your knobbies. Great trails, really the best riding in Missouri as far as parks go.

Doug, its a state park and has all amenities and great campsites. Its not really sand per say like Glamis or even Little Sahara, its an old lead mine and these are the tailings. You can run paddles or I used to run holeshots everywhere. Lots of guys who drag race prefer the 4-snow tires over the paddles. The trails are rocky and hard packed so a mx type tire in 20" is about the best all around tire for everything, but you can bring a variety and have fun with all of them.

I think you'll like it Doug. From about 1996-2002 I spent damn near every weekend there as long as it was warm and not raining. There is a sand drag track minutes from the park and on Saturday Day, we would go to the park and drag race all day, then pack up and head to the track that evening and race under the lights all night. Lots of great memories and special times down there.

I received a few PM's from individuals on other conflicting rides that are happening on the weekend of May 4th and I know several of you told me you couldn't make the 20th, so we are going to settle on April 27th. I figured the earlier I release the date, the earlier everyone can start planning!

Considering it. What kind of riding do you guys do? Play around in the sand or ride till you drop on the trails? I know the trails can get a little gnarly with the size of the rocks down there so it might be a bit of a war.

As for parts, I just have some 70 stuff. I may hit up TF this yr, so I may keep the sx to ride there unless I can sell it for enough to fix my 200x. My x needs a complete engine rebuild, air box, tires and air box tube. I think thats it.

The Tecate doesn't have skid plates on it and I'm not trashing the Westcoast swinger or anything else so my tail riding will be minimal if at all. I may also have the 250r down there (maybe) and that will never see a trail, so I will be spending most of my time in the sand and where the guys drag race. The trails are fun if you have a bike that you don't mind bouncing off a boulder or two. This being said do not let me hold anyone back from doing whatever they want, whenever they want. I just enjoy riding so if guys want to group up and go on a couple hour trail ride I can definitely occupy myself during.

I can't wait to just ride.

well I decided to get my west coast swinger on my R and now my bike is tore down to the frame and front end! seized pivot bolt so i pulled the motor to get a grinder in there to cut the bolt! should have it back together after my honeymoon next week. I will have my R and Z and maybe a banshee buddy. we will only be down on saturday though. any one got a pivot bolt nut? lol got a bolt but thats it!

Trying to do a head count today to figure out the cost, but the max is 6 people cmaping per site UNLESS you have a camper and then that rule doesnt apply. like 33$ to reserve for fri and sat night at a camp site with no electricity. I have never camped at st joe but I have been riding there for years!

The Tecate is ready to roll. The 250r is just too far away so I'm only bringing one.

250R is done as of yesterday. Counterbalancer rebuilt, Waterpump rebuilt, brand new barnett basket with OEM clutch plates and springs. Shifts like butter. Also did a compression check and we are sitting at 188 psi. St. Joe, its feeding time!

Yeah I know, but Chris just got a new CRF450 that he literally hasn't ridden more than 15 minutes, so I know he is itching. And I'm way more comfortable on the KTM too. We will probably get there about 4pm or so, just enough time to set up camp and stuff. Staying saturday night and leaving sunday morning.

Well, after checking the calender, I will not be able to ride. I work, but since I just live a few minutes away, I can swing by to bs for a while. I wont get off work til 6p, so I can come afterwards. At least I can meet some of ya. So, I have been thinking about getting rid of either one or both of my trikes to get one good rider. This being said, I have the 87 sx that I have mentioned before and a 1st gen 200x, but the engine is tore down. It needs cranks bearings and top end. It is missing the air box and tube, but other wise in good shape. I also have some 70 stuff as well. This being said, all is for sale or trade. You can pm me for more info and I can give u my number if anyone is interested.

Just a heads up, check-in at your site isn't until 3pm. We reserved the Thursday before ($18 extra) just so we can check in right as we pull in. Otherwise you'll have to leave all your stuff in the public parking area which I wasn't nuts about - I would rather leave the truck/trailer/bikes up at our campsite.

As for the rain, I'm not worried about it. The first time I went there (in 2000) it did nothing but storm the entire weekend. That was probably the funnest time I ever had. The sand gets packed down nice and hard and you can actually ride on it (on a bike at least).

So Bryan and I went out today and our bikes were the yin and the yang. Mine was running out pretty good I just think I need to drop down from a 170 to a 168, but for the most part the R is smokin'. Unfortunately the Tecate had a bad case of the flu today and when she wasn't puking gas she was sputtering all over the place. So when we got back to Bryan's we made some mad scientist changes and boy does she run now, hehehe. See all you guys next weekend.

It was great to get out, but man it was a wet mess out there. The Tecate needed the outing that is for sure. I was having carb/airbox problems all day and the wet conditions just made it worse. We called it a day early and got back and started wrenching. I went back with the stock airbox with a vented lid, 39mm PWK and 250r Thumb Throttle (sorry Doug). I just can't get used to the twister to save my life.

Bkm can't blame you on the twist throttle, I took a ride at trikefest 2007 on a restored tecate 85 and flipped it bad on the back fire trails. Twisters only get along with dirt bikes

got the bikes ready last night, charging up the battery on the square (kfx700) and the 250sx has a leaky petcock but it will be fine for this ride. We started loading the trikes at ATC-Lindsey's house but only got 4 of the 5 bikes on their trailer so it looks like I will be hauling a bike for them lol. im ready!

hey guys didnt think about it until now, i need the little strap off the bottom of a thumb throttle. a honda throttle if possible; i lost the one from my thumb throttle and kinda need one since the part i made from aluminum to hold it on is janky and probably not the safest thing lol

Eric is briging me one but he wont be there until sunday!!!!!! So if anyone has that tiny 3 inch piece of metal that holds the honda stock thumb throttle onto the bars, i would appreciate the use of it for about 24 hours. Thats iT! who has an extra ;)

We were able to ride the entire 100 trail(except for where it was closed off) today. I would say we got in probably 3.5 to 4 hours friday before it got nasty wet. So all in all a pretty decent ride. Covered in mud but it didnt bother us. My body is beat up pretty good. Sucks getting old and being a tad out of shape(damn that lil deb). I was very impressed with the park. Very clean and well maintained.

Hey Shannon, if you don't mind getting wet then you should go. I doubt the water will be down by tomorrow, the ground is really saturated and it was pouring again when Bryan and I pulled out a 2pm.

lucky guy! we got home around 330 yesterday and it took my until 730 to finish unpacking and washing bikes and equipment! Highway patrol got me rolling down hwy 67 at 79 miles per hour. He pulled me over and went down the list of issues he had with me: no proof of insurance (couldnt find card), 79 in a 65mph zone, expired tags on my trailer I didnt know about, and non working lights on the trailer. Could have written me 4 tickets, only gave me one for the expired tags on the trailer lol

on a side note the Lightning is not a comfortable truck for sleeping two people in ;)

Not positive but.... Thought we might have a Michigan ride then? I guess I should be looking at dates. But my thoughts are on preps for trikefest! Broke a bunch this weekend, need to get at fixin..

It was really nice meeting new Missouri riders, and seeing some faces from before. We need to stay in touch better to ride more often!

The EPA has been trying to close that place for 20+ years and they won't stop until they succeed. From what I've been told it was either close the park or perform the changes they have made.

I'm glad I got to ride on it back before they started all this reclaiming when you could run wide open. This will end the drag racing I bet. I've read that they might close off the lead tailings part completely. I noticed they covered a lot of the trails with gravel that use to be sand.

I also had a good time. It was nice to put some faces to the names on here. Also super glad that I didn't have any bad get-off's. KTM came back with a flat front tire though.
