Hey,
I was in the process of trying to replace my manual clutch plates in my 1982 ATC 185. The process requires you to take off the centrifugal clutch first. This is where i run into my problem. I did as the manual said, "put a penny in the gears to prevent the motor from turning over" I have also done as good a job as possible to raise the recessed button of metal on the locknut that presses into the crankshaft. i also am turning the nut in the recomended clockwise direction. It Will not budge. I have tried hammering it, and putting all my strength into it. For a part thats supposed to be torqued to 30 some odd pounds, this is on there pretty damn tight. Please help, This is painfully holding things up.
Thanks
Derek

you are doing it right Derek. i didn't do a 185 but the 250es is just the same. i ended up using a peice of copper tubing flattened out on the end + doubled over ( plus a long cheater bar on the end of the ratchet ).
i kept rolling pennys thru the gears too ,,,

Have you tried an impact wrench ?
