86 atc250r clutch help

Hello, been ripping around on my new 250r, noticed the clutch grabbing hard. Well took the side cover off, and holy crap, clutch basket wore bad. Massive grooves looks like a saw blade. So looking for a replacement. Seems slim pickins on Ebay, checking into other options. Seems an 89 trx basket an upgrade, so all the other years should also work. Also like the idea of a wiseco basket. Only thing with that is my center hub grooved, (not as bad), also. Whats the point of getting a nice basket when the inner hub grooved to hell? Or does it not matter as much because it only holds the steel plates? I'm just looking for a decent replacement. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I like my Hinson. With regular oil changes it is holding up EXTREMELY well.

My brother put the Hinson basket in my trike when he owned it before me. And it seems I remember it wasn't a simple bolt on job to install it. I think he had some fun with the ring gear transfer from the old basket to the hinson??? And I know for certain that the clutch drive gear teeth had to be chamfered to clear the Hinson basket...

I am running the Hinson basket and pressure plate with the stock inner hub still. Although my inner hub is in excellent condition still, it seems like sawtooth wear on the basket fingers is what mainly causes issues like you are having.

You can to a degree resurface your clutch basket fingers to alleviate the grabby clutch if it isn't too severe....

Barnett seems nice, looks like its the whole basket not just the bolt on. I love their dirt diggers, so the must have a nice product. Not to much more then the wiseco bolt on. Heading out now to work on it, might post some pics of the inner hub to get some opinions.....

If it can be saved, I'm not sure.

But if it were me, I would try and carefully smooth it back out with a dremel. You won't be out anything to try.

true. Also read where people just smoothed out basket grooves too. On a sever case tho prolly different. I can see trying not like its not trashed to start with.... stock fibers and steels.... what will happen with increased distance between basket posts and fiber fingers?

awww f me in the goat ass!!!!! my cylinder has crappy heavy porting!!!!! the gap between my exhaust ports is cracked through the sleeve!!! Murder!!!!!!! awww man time to put in some overtime...........shes worth it.....

Awe that sucks!

Bout all you will get with increased basket finger gap is a slight bit of slop with the clutch lever out. In other words, if you put the trike in 1st gear with the engine off, you will have a little bit more back and forth movement of the trike if you rock it back and forth. You probably won't even notice it because between the way the transmission has some slop and the chain you already have that type of drivetrain slop. It will just have slightly more.

thanks for the help man, ill try the clutch and hopefully will last the summer.... now i gotta get a new cylinder........
