the bike was running fine started first pull no prob... it was losing power when shifted into second gear and i was told it was a timing prob wit the points.. i changed the points and i feel like i have them set right (.35mm) the manual says between .3mm and .4mm.. Now i cant even get the trike to start it has plenty of spark i just dont get it... Could the points gap be off so far that the engine wouldnt run?? thanx for any and all replies.,..

Hi did you replace the condensor at the same time ? maybe a condensor issue,
is it sparking ? have you pulled the plug and layed it on the head to see if it sparks ?
are all wiring conectors good ?
is the kills switch ok ?
is the coil grouned ok ?
is ot getting fuel ok ? is the plug getting wet when you pull it after trying to start it ?
i had similar problems with mine and after illiminating all of the above mentioned problems mine was down to fuel problems

Yo answer your Q, yes, points gap can actually change the timing...but you say you HAVE spark?
it just won't run?
Not sure if the points plate on those actually moves, as in rotates (with spring) to advance the timings like a centrifugal advance.
Maybe fooling with the points and screws got the advance plate stuck in some other position.
and / or follow woody's train of thought.
Heck, I'll put air in my tires and for some reason the fuel filter or gas cap vent will quit working.

The points gap is what controls the timing. There are instructions in the service manual on how to make a timing light for them.
