View Full Version : 85 200x front brake caliper and YZ Master Cylinder - How to bleed?

Well I'm trying to bleed this (never done before) but there isn't really any brake fluid going through the line. There was a little bit in the beginning but now there is none at all. I can put my finger on that bleeder hole (with the rubber cap) and there is no pressure what so ever. I took the Caliper off and now its just the line connected to the MC and still nothing is coming out of there. Could that banjo bolt on the MC be to tight of a fit? I don't think my line is garbage, I can hear air being pushed out through the bottom hole.

I just use a hand bleeder. Makes quick work of it.

You can get a mightyvac bleeder at almost any autoparts store. Only way to bleed brakes.

Ok well both of those options are 50 dollars to 150 dollars lol. What's my cheapest way? There must be some other way other than a tool. Why is a tool necessary?

Use a large syringe and pump it backwards threw the bleeder , takes all of 2 minuets this way .

whats worked for me is to crack the bleeder and use your thumb (free) to cover hole on bleeder. pump twice and hold lever against handlebars and remove thumb. put thumb back over hole and release brake lever. then pump again and repeat. if you dont start getting anything in 10-15 trys u need to bleed master cylinder. remove the banjo bolt and line and do the same thing with thumb only hold it over the banjo bolt hole. you should be able to get enough pressure to feel it on your finger. hurry up and put banjo bolt and line back on and go back to the caliper bleeding
this is a very crude way to do it but i have had it work many times. now i use a pneumatic vacuum bleeder like the other guys are suggesting but i do enough brakework to justify the purchase. can't remember exactly but i think i paid 20 or 30 for mine through harbor freight tools but its probably 50 at napa. i think they also carry a hand vacuum pump set up for like 10 and it works well also

Cool Thanks Trike Savior! I'll try that tomorrow, if it doesn't work I'll look into the cheapest hand pump I can find. I only plan on using it once so pointless to spend 50+

If you do your own maintenance on anything with hydraulic brakes, you will find it to be a good purchase. The mightyvac I have has saved me so much time

If your brake hose is higher than the master cylinder at any point, it makes it very hard to bleed. I had this problem on one of my trikes.
I temporarily re-routed the hose for bleeding. You could also pull the master off and hold it higher than the hose. Neither will cost you anything ;)

Ok well I got brake fluid to go through the lines. No tools necessary =) Just kept putting my finger over the hole and squeezing the lever.

Ok well my brakes are in business! =) I finally have a good brake setup lol. Thanks again Trike Savior.. I did what you suggested even pumping it up like 6 times before letting my finger off. Took maybe 5 minutes if that.
