Hey fellas, new to the site but been in the quad forums forever. I've used this site alot in the past to research my atcs but figured I had better make myself known. I just bought some stuff from captain wheezy the other night and he said he was on here. These things sure are addictive..... I have a couple 70s and some 200s that I'm working on now so I'm gonna have to get familiar with the search function.
I'm definitely not new to engines or wheelers as i've ridden my whole life. Went to school and got an engineering degree as well as an auto tech degree just because I love to wrench and modify stuff. I've ridden moto since an early age but a broken neck slowed me down with the dirtbikes so now I'm getting more into the rebuilding thing.
Anyway, seems like a great site and look forward to learning from all of you!

Also I need a recoil spacer for this 70 you have one? Also a few more parts I may need to make a trip down.
Here is my progress since I left your house:

Remember those crappy wheels I took? Look good now huh? This is how its sits. Waiting for the recoil to come back because I was having a Delrin spacer made. Also waiting for plastics and the seat cover. Will be done soon.

Nice specimen. I also like your shop...man, to have that much extra space to putter - don't think I'll ever know what that's like!

Well thanks. I sure do need to reorganize and clean. Its a 40 x 50 with a wood stove attached to the house. I'll snap another pic sometime when i have it cleaned up. Right now i have a gsxr 750, 2 atc70s, a 200s, and an RM250 tore apart rebuilding. Just keep rotating till I hit a roadblock and move to the next bike.

Being brand loyal and into moto prompted these. Billetbadges.com

Quick question here fellas. When I put my recoil on this 70 the inner pull rope hub hits the cage on the flywheel before the recoil is bolted on all the way? If I bolt it tight it completely locks it up. Am I missing a spacer or something? I am having a delrin spacer made to shim it out but it doesnt appear there was ever one there? I ordered the recoil in great condition off ebay but can't figure out why it wont bolt up correctly.

What year of 70 is the recoil off?

I am not sure the listing stated several years and my being in a hurry assumed they are all the same. I may just take the cage off and shave it down.

Let me know what you need. I looked yesterday but dont have any type of spacers. I know there were deferent recoils. One was deeper. Sorry i didnt think of this on the phone the other day. Dont worry though, you can resell that recoil in a heartbeat. There are several 70 nuts on here so im sure someone will jump in and give the years you need. I think that motor is an 81 or 82 if i remember.

It is an 82 and runs flawlessly by the way! I will keep this recoil for later use as I have it all cleaned and painted to the original metallic grey. I'll get a hold of you soon to discuss coming down there and the St Joe trip.
