I need help with a 81' Honda 200atc I just got.

I jus got a 81 Honda 200atc. It in pretty good shape and runs pretty good. Last night me and budy of mine Took our trikes out for a ride and had no problems. Than today I noticed a black sludge(pretty sure it's old oil or something) all over the end of the exhaust and the hitch that's behind and below the exhaust. I'm Wondering if any one knows what it's from, or if you know of something that causes oil to come out of the exhaust on a 4 stroke. Thanks.

yeah its more than likely bad valve seals or bad rings. did you notice any blue smoke when the engine is running. if its bad enough you have oil coming out of exaust you are burning alot of oil and it should smoke and you need to fix it before riding it again. if you run the motor low on oil it will blow.

Is it smoking bad? If so then you have to get into the engine a bit. If its not smoking but your just seeing all this crud back there it could be it hasn't been run in forever and the exhaust had a lot of junk in it? I don't know the history of the trike so just suggesting.

Also check your rear end and make sure your not actually seeing lube from the rear end.

Sounds like you need to rebuild your top end bud..its not too expensive if you can do it yourself.
