Ok,
LOOKING at the PIC of my pump APART...was it missing 2 seals on the other side of the diaphrams? Do you guys have 2 sets of seals in yours? Mine only had 1 set for each side.
Here is what I have. Looking at the kits I ordered and what is on my pump now...begs the question: Am I missing some seals or something?
Compare what's in mine to the rebuild kit. ON both sides I got a diaphragm and then one seal:163894163895

Looks like you ordered only a gasket kit and not a full rebuild kit which would have come with diaphragms as well.

I am pretty sure the kit you need is the 002-223 They cost about $35 on ebay.

LOL!!! I didn't even see them in the photo! got to love what aging does to the eyes. Yes Darius, you have a full kit there, just make sure you line everything back up the way it came apart.

What did you guys think of what was in my pump? I've got only one set of seals not 2 in there now....

yeah, just the difference of old and new...The PAPER gaskets will go against the cover plates of each side, the RUBBER gaskets go against the fuel pump body on each side, and the clear diaphragms go in the between the paper and rubber gaskets on each side.

I recently rebuilt my pump. Unfortunately the rebuild kit does not include the smaller clear disks that control the flow from the inlet chamber to the outlet chamber--the ones in the center of the pump. The kit includes two larger clear disks and a variety of gaskets. When you put it back together, be sure to align the parts correctly with the center partition lined up (i.e., the diagonal the separates the inlet and outlet chambers). I rather carelessly put mine back together without doing that and it ran fine in the garage but stopped pumping on the trail. I didn't realize what the problem was until I got home and took it back apart. Now it runs great.

The kit he has there, is a complete kit, with EVERYTHING to rebuild the pump. they are not OEM Yamaha, but they are GENUINE Mikuni rebuild kits. You can get them out of Parts Unlimited for around $15, if you want to replace the smaller discs that you said you didn't get.

So, the OEM Yamaha kit (which I bought) doesn't include the smaller discs but the Mikuni kit does?

Well, I just checked and the Mikuni kit does include the small clear disks and the rubber mounts. Lesson: don't buy the Yamaha rebuild kit because it doesn't include these parts--at least mine didn't.

Ok good to know I was not missing anything.
However I grabbed the old diaphragm that separates the chamber where the line comes in from the cylinder and it TORE!
There is no way it would tear unless there was a small rip in it already.
So I HOPEFULLY have found my problem.
Wish me luck!! Love that Z...but man she drives me nuts at times..hopefully this it! 163913

Yeah I saw that too. I assume changing that smaller disc and rubber piece is important...
What size of the lines on the fuel system and the breather tubes?
There are two sizes right?
What are you guys using for size fuel lines?
For some of the bigger breather tubes?

Assuming this is right.....
I have the rubber on the outside plate, then the diaphram and then the paper against the main fuel pump body.
See pic...there is a diaphram between them.164011

Got the pump fixed, float height set.... Z starts perfectly....
Also very little smoke.
I had a small tear on the vacuum side of the pump diaphragm.
