Oil Drain Plug Help!

So when I got my 83 225dx awhile ago, the day I bought it looked at the oil stick and it was empty I was going to drain anything left out but the oil plug was completely shaved down and I couldn't get it off, so I never could properly drain it, any suggestions on how to get that bolt out? I tried vice grips and stuff like that but no luck, and I would like to not 100% destroy the bolt because I'm not gonna buy a 25 dollar bolt off eBay, I do have a grinder so I can re grind the edges down

if it is steel [some are] tig or mig weld a wrench to it. then cut it off with a cut off wheel. the real hardware store will have something close but you will need to use a thin plastic or fiber washer they sell as a sealing gasket all for under $4.00 tell them you want a metric flange bolt. they will show you where they are in the store. done it many times

Irwin makes a fancy socket designed for extracting stripped or broken bolts (in your case drain plug)...they have helped me out big time in the past. i would give that a shot....worst case if you dont have a welder like barnett suggested it sounds like you have to drill it out....start with a small drill bit and work your way larger. MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN THE CENTER OF THE PLUG!!.... little by little work your way to larger bits..eventually youll get it out. clean up the threads with the corect tap... worst case if your a bit off center and hit the threads with the drill bit, you can slightly oversize the threads and re tap it or install a heli coil....hope this helps to guide you in the right direction. any questions feel free to ask! good luck bud!

craftsman also makes a similar tool called damaged nut and bolt remover. they are a lifesaver to have around and what you need to use. i am 99% sure that is what will work for you. you may need to hammer it on to get it to grip just be delicste cause the aluminum around it is fragile

i would not suggest drilling it. no offense im not sure of your skill level but if you are not experienced with drilling out fasteners your only bike is not the place to start. find an old piece of junk to practice on. drilling out bolts takes a while and lots of practice to get to the point that you have something usable when you are done. especially on aluminum because if the bit walks to either side of the steel and gets near the aluminum it will go through aluminum like hot knife through butter before you notice what is going on. this is a good skill to have but practice first.

try the damaged nut and bolt remover. if you still have problems post some pics and we will try to help
