Hello
I'll try to find out for you but someone else should know also. The vin on your frame is missing because your bike is most likely stolen. If you get caught where i am an atv with no vin they instantly confiscate it unless it has a metal police id tag on it from theft recovery.

No it wasn't stolen, its looks like it was still there but from all the years that it faded off, because that layer over it peeled off

Yamaha says it is stamped on frame on all models not on a stick on tag do you have a photo of it?.
The US DOT says it is illegal to use a stick on tag for vin verification on ANY vehicle unless it is a revin from the highway patrol but who knows what actually happens for sure.
It's stamped into the elevated part of the right rear section of the engine
It's on page 4 of the manual below care of monroe mike i think.

If you clean up the neck with a wire brush, you might be able to read the numbers.
The engine serial number is where Barnett said (it's next to the breather hose, if that helps).
Check this post, for more info.

Hello
No, no one will know. You must take it to the police unless you have a car dealer friend. he can run a registration check. You can also try ncic.com.

barnett468

It will be very easy to see unless it has also been removed. it is on a flat pad 2" long 1/2" wide. It will be facing up on too of the motor not on the side. If it is not there it's suspicious.

ok i know what you mean, should be easy to find ill still take a pic of the frame where it was, just so you can see what i meant,
Thanks For all your help i really do appreciate it,

Hello Colton
No problem, happy to tell you what's going on after we see the photos. If the vin was stamped on the frame you can wet sand it with 280 or 320 paper, then get some "metal prep acid" from an automotive paint supply shop, Pour some on a paper towel and hold it on the number area for a minute. do this 2 times and the number may appear faintly.
ColtonGG33
03-06-2013, 03:56 AM
oh i didnt know it was stamped into the frame? i thought it was like a sticker on it with all the info, i am defiantly gonna check it out
is there anything else i could use instead of that metal prep we will probably be snowed in tomorrow, and wont be able to get to the store
either way ill get a number :)

hello
Yes but it doesn't work as well. sulfuric acid = battery acid or muratic or hydrochloric acid = pool acid they are both the same just a different name. if you have powdered pool axcid mix a little with warm water.
shoot us a photo of the area though

use gloves or a cotton ball held with pliers. they wont burn you right away but be careful and wash quickly

barnett468
03-07-2013, 02:15 AM
Hello Colton
The info you want should be in the manual I gave you the link to. It is either the last 3 digits of the vin or the 693 bike made.
ColtonGG33
03-07-2013, 02:24 AM
Ok, Im not sure what you meant by The last 3 digits of the vin for 693? Because 693 is the 3 last digits of the vin

Hello I see what looks like 693 on the vin stamped on the frame. I can not read the white tag however if it says 1963 it could still be a 1984 depending upon what date it was built. What is the date if it is still legible? However monroe mike posted the year by vin if i remember.
ColtonGG33
03-07-2013, 06:36 AM
I don't see the 1 in front of 693 I think it's just 693. Also that VIN finder thing that monroemike posted said That before 84 or 85 that it is only a 9 digit instead of the normal 15 digit, if you go to the Second pic and zoom up really close it says " this yam, wait hold on as I'm writing this I just read more of the sticker tag and it say "this 1983 Yam29U 0225 I think that's it there might be more what does that mean?
barnett468
03-07-2013, 08:17 AM
hello
What is the full vin on frame?
the build date should have a / in it like 2/16/83 or just 2/83 with no day of month but most likely it is in fact a 1983 model.
don't know what the 0225 means just yet.
