You may have seen the thread 2 speed zinger with the durablue rear axle. Raffa and I worked together on this bike for a while. Well....after always wanting to tear into the rear end gears to see what they were...here is what I found. http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo321/andyatc70/th_PC230092_zps5205e718.jpg (http://s388.photobucket.com/user/andyatc70/media/PC230092_zps5205e718.jpg.html)

Ring gear appears not to be stock as the guy who built it told me so. He since passed away and claimed it to be the gear out of a qt50 moped?? I think he may be right which would explain 40mph top end and no balls out of the whole for this thing. My ????...does anyone know off hand how many teeth on a stock zinger ring and pinion set??? Cause I have 54 on the ring and 11 on the pinion?? It appears another ring her has been welded to this axle?? It would explain the tall gear as it was raced local on a big dirt oval......Thanks....... Lookin to throw another rear end in it for Trikefest drags..... Fabio???? lol.......:lock: Doing some math this leaves me with a 4.9/1 ratio. Way short of the zinger ratio I beleive......7 or 8 to 1 or there abouts.....

@Crazy70man: Does the hole in the gear appear to be bored larger? I know when I took my rear apart the zinger has a larger diameter axle than any of the bikes that use the similar engine. From what I remember from running
the part numbers. The PW and MJ shared the same gears. Another possibility is the previous owner modified the gear from the LC50? this used the two speed motor that the Towny and Sting used,But used smaller scooter sized tires.
From what Vealmonkey can remember the moped was one only made a few years and this version of the LC50.Was made I believe in 80' and 81'? It's also possible you have aftermarket gears? I've got the rear gears for the Zinger,
LC50, QT and I have the PW gears in my QT, Which by the way is a dog till about 25 when it comes on the pipe.Hope some of this helps.

wonder if the 7 pinion will match up .........:naughty: was there oil in it? Ya there was thick grease and nasty rust colored sh%$....it was lubed well Raffa, I just ran it thru the parts washer to snap pics. If the 7 would work that would make it a 7.71 final!! May do the trick! I may try that route first....

you might have to shim that over to get the correct backlash..

Hello
Hello you must do as Bryan Raffa suggests but it will only work providing the pinion is also shimmable. The outside diameter of the 49 is slightly smaller than the 54 therefore the pinion needs to protrude slightly farther into the case to properly center on the ring gear. If it is not centered and properly and set for lash it will make noise and prematurely wear. The pinions may be machined to fit with no shims, if that's the case and you can't find shims for it then it won't, check the manual to see if it uses shims. The back of the ring gear obviously must be shimmed also.
Hope this info helps.

Thanks for the info...... Gonna just try and leave all the old stuff on the durablue and run a stock rear end for now...
