I have an 84 110, that doesn't want to run. I took my CDI box and carb off my running 110, and put them on my 84 to see if it would run. It's getting gas, it has spark. It seems to have ok compression. Could my spark not be hot enough? It won't even fire if I put carb cleaner in the spark plug hole. I don't think the timing is off, or anything like that. What could be my problem here? I haven't tried really hard to get it running. But with the small effort I put in to get it sparking and to have gas, it seems like it should run? What could be my problem? I have no oil inside it, that couldn't be the problem could it? Would oil give it more compression? (I have no oil in it, because it just leaks out.)

you need oil in it before you run it...that would be a good start. do you have the drain plug in it?

Yes. It's leaking from somewhere on the casing. I know I need to put oil in before starting it, but I thought it would be ok if I just got it running and started for a second, then turn it off and fill it with oil.

Hello

Your spark should be blue not yellow. If your carb cleaner does not say flammable it is water based and will not burn.

I would check cam timing, set valve clearance visually inspect for rockers working[may have flat cam], do compression test. Must have around 105 to run should be around 160.

Hope this helps.

I bought an old 84 ct 110, it wouldn't start, I set the valves, one was too tight, must have been leaking compression. Also had to put clutch discs in as the clutch slipped when i tried to start it. New clutch discs, adjusted valves, started right up!

no you don't need oil for it to run. ive run it for a second without oil and didn't hurt anything. check what these guys are saying, valve clearance, timing, since you are using the pulse generator on this engine and condition is unknown, check the magnet that bolts on cam, make sure the springs are on the advancer.

Try a new spark, and check valve clearance.
