hi im working on my girlfriends daddys 84 200es and it just wont run the day we got it the guy said he had it running and cleaned the carb so i road it down the road and everything was fine except the idle. well got back in the yard and it shut off and i couldnt get it to start. the next i went to ride it and it was fine once i finally got it to crank then it shut off and cant get it to crank. anyways the pull rope broke so we r having to jump it off, the battery is fully charged but the electric start wont work neither will any of the lights i havint checked anything like spark this week cuz i wanted to go ahead and get opinions. when we try to crank it it just spins and spins never even trys to crank but it does have new gas and a new plug but we did check the fuses and they are all fine if anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated thanx

Ok so you hit the start button and the engine spins over but it doesn't fire... Check your kill switch on the handlebar, move it back and forth a dozen or so times to make sure its not shorted inside. Pull the spark plug and check for spark. If no spark or weak looking spark its time to replace the CDI. I have replaced the CDI on three 200ES's now and countless others. My 200ES started doing the spark no spark dance last summer and i posted on here how i rewired it for a new cheaper aftermarket CDI. Since then i have had absolutely zero ignition problems.

Oh and on the 200ES as well as many other trikes, the battery, fuses, lights, have NOTHING to do with the ignition side. You can have no battery, no lights, no ignition switch, nada, and she will run just fine. The ignition is a totally separate circuit consisting of a coil in the stator, the spark advancer and pulse generator up on the head, the CDI unit, and finally the ignition coil.

If it runs fine riding it, but won't idle, I would stab at a carb clean besides the possible electrical issue you have.
