yea I think mine slid out a little bit if i remember correctly. Nothing really holding it in, it just slides into a circular piece with a dowel sticking out to fit into the head.

What is your question? You are wondering if you can take the cam out with the Rocker cover still installed? If so, no.

no I cant pull it out all the way only say a 1/4 of an inch then the lobe hits just wanted to make sure that was ok before I order my piston and
rings

with the rocker box still installed you should be able to pull out a tiny bit but not much. To see if its OK, take your rocker box cover off and mic the cam lobes and look at your journal cradles on the head....only way to be 100% sure.

your talking about the camshaft? once you take the cdi off and you see the cam sprocket and chain, then you should be able to pull it out a little bit.

ok cool just making sure have heard people talk about the head getting screwed up just making sure before I build it. the whole reason for the
tear down was it was smoking real bad so I am pretty sure have was the valve seals, and the other half was the piston was frim 84 so the rings
were fried. the piston sleeve seems to be egged out a little only onr way so im taking to the machine
shop monday to see if I can get away with 20 over before I order a piston
