I drug my YFZ out so I can hopefully ride it in the near future. It has been sitting in my shed for more than a few years untouched. One problem I had when I put it up is the rear brake would scrape, grind, squeak or whatever you want to call it. Just pushing it around by hand you can hear it. Last I recall the rear brake worked fine, it just makes that noise when it is not engaged. I remember YFZs in general use to have an issue with the parking brake. I planned on getting a block off for it but never got around to it. And now I cannot afford it. Before I tare into this thing are there any common issues that would cause this? If so, is there anything I can do that will not cost anything to correct it. Like taking the caliper apart and going through it?

Hey lonesome just a thought but I would take the pads off and clean them up with some sandpaper and then try some brake cleaner.

I was kind of thinking that as well. But I would like to be prepared for any surprises. They like to pop up on simple things like this.

I know the feeling anything that could happen usually does happen to me haha!

Same here. I have no idea how many times I started with a simple problem and ended with a total rebiuld.

To start, just tear the whole caliper and mount apart and after cleaning EVERYTHING then re grease the slides and reassemble.
Make sure the piston/pistons are free, if it still drags your rotor might be warped.

Just finished doing all of that. I also adjusted the parking brake way out. Everything seems to be working. Now to get the other stuff checked out and ready to ride.
